Above Symmetry Cancel PP USA XIII Appearance

What is it with avant garde/progressive Norwegian bands? Do you think they'll be hibernating in the same cave Arcturus used last year?

What? I think that logic is unfounded. So Arcturus canceled last year and Above Symmetry cancels this year and they both happen to be Norwegian. I'm going to assume you're just making a jab at them for this, but in case you actually believe your statement, here is a list of Norwegian bands that have not canceled:

Ihsahn
Leprous
Pagan's Mind
Circus Maximus
Spiral Architect
Conception
Jørn Lande
Illusion Suite

And then members of Ark/Kamelot/Leaves Eyes/Saint Deamon

I'm sure if I thought about other countries canceling for a moment, I could say the same thing about a few other countries. ;)

In all seriousness, I liked what I heard from Above Symmetry, had purchased their latest, and thought they were going to be a fun kickoff for Saturday. Prior Saturday openers: Haken, Stormwarrior, Circus Maximus, Saint Daemon, there've been some good ones.

I don't know if you heard, but some obscure avant-garde/prog guy who nobody has evern heard of named Ihsahn played ProgPower USA last year...

And by the way, do you realize you mentioned a Norwegian prog opener in your post? LOLOLOL

I guess I'm in the minority here, but I was really looking forward to seeing these guys.

As for a replacement, I'm crossing my fingers for Arch/Matheos… Sympathetic Resonance is brilliant and would LOVE to see it performed live!!

Hey DD,

Welcome to the forum. It's impossible to replace an opening band with a rare appearance from a headline caliber band. The finances/logistics just don't work.

Probably the only chance you'll have to see that this year...

No offense was meant towards the greater core of Norwegian Metal Acts, especially not to Ihsahn, who improved the fest last year. No, I do not think Norwegian bands are flakey, as proven by the general track record at the fest.

I still wonder if it's a hibernation thing, though.

Yes, I did. CM is a fave, both for their music and the professionalism of their frontman who bailed out ANOTHER band by stepping in for vocal duty.

Glenn, thanks for the welcome. And you can't blame a guy for dreaming!! LOL

Angra - yeah, I saw that announcement and it really bummed me out because I'm in out of town that weekend for work... stupid job. Grrrr.

Above Symmetry notified me yesterday that they are cancelling their appearance with deep regret, blah, blah. I'll defer to the band for the "official" explanation. Honestly, I'm not surprised. Make your own assumptions.

That said, I have already confirmed their replacement. Announcement coming in a few hours once the left coast drags their ass out of bed.

We replace prog with prog....

OOHHHH NOOOO!?

HMPH...

I was really looking forward to see them. Their debut cd is really good. Their loss. Here's hoping Vangough. Though I'm sure whoever the replacement is will be a good one.

+1. I wanted to sleep in after the pre-party, and Vangough would have been the perfect pretentious talentless POS band to miss. But he had to go get a kickass band as a replacement, so on the rail I will be...hung over and sleepy.

Way to come across as an asshole. Good job.

Not to like a band is fine. To be a tactless jerk about bands, especially when the members are frequently on this forum is something else.
