Active Bass Pick-ups (?)

Gents,

Anyone know if there is an appreciable difference between the ESP active bass p/u's (esp SB-4) and the active EMG's(EMG 35's, etc)? I've played both "in store" and notice no real difference whatever - yet intuitively I presume the EMG's are better. Any ideas?
