Total bullshit. Maybe less of a difference than you'd see with passives but any claim that actives nullify the tone of the wood is empirically and demonstrably wrong.

Totally agree, anyone else see the EMG video recently with James Hetfield talking about putting the Het Set in a guitar and then seeing how the guitar sounds, because he knows what those pickups sound like?

The tonewood debate is not about pickups sounding the same in different guitars but whether the body wood alone (that people most look at when choosing guitars) has a real effect on the sound or it is the construction + hardware that mostly determines it. As this is not something an end user musician can really try and hear, we should not obsess about it too much and focus on more important things .

The only reason why I asked about the tone wood debate is because if actives negate wood tone then I'm going with the lightest guitar because of back issues. Spinal disc degeneration is a bitch.
