Im a similar situation, except I run Fireface 800. I'm waiting to hear about the Behringer ADA8200 before I decide on one. I have a feeling the pre's are gonna kinda suck ass in any of these devices, so im hoping the ADA8200 will have a low enough noise floor to use it just as a decent a/d converter. Not to steal the thread on you, but am I overlooking a good multichannel a/d converter under the 500$ mark that doesnt have preamps. I think its a dumb move for companies not to bypass the preamps. And back to your original question the profire is being discontinued they are cheap right now. Does have preamp bypass. The only downfall of the profire is that the sample rate cannot be changed on the Profire with out it being connected to the computer. Not really standalone, and i dont want to install a profire on my system. Where as the octopre (not sure if it has pre bypass but i assume so) it is "truly standalone" Hope this helps. Good luck
