advice on bass cabinet mics

so what do you guys use on bass cabinets? d112? 52? audix d6? 421? what would you recommend for hard-rock/metal? which mic works the best for you? and do you usually mix the micced signal with a DI or Preamp (sansamp)?

any clips of mics/processed DI tracks would also be highly appreciated! I'm eager to learn more about this!

I love my D6 on my cab, if I do bother mic'ing live that will be my mic of choice. In the studio I like to mix a D6, clean DI and Sansamp to get my bass sound.

Tube large membrame condenser allways is cool.
Sm57/md421 aswell.

If your gonna mic it with a kickmic, guess were it will fight with in the mix

for some reason the at4033 shines on bass, and pretty much on nothing else

Usually I can only go direct and use Ampeg SVX. Recently I was sent a di and one track micked with a beta 52 and once the phase issues were taken care of it blended pretty well. I left mostly the lows from the DI and the rest from the micked track.

md421 is my go-to. 57 works well also.

If you mic a Warwick running into an Ampeg with a D6 then you have no problems with the kick, my Corvette $$ has so much mid-range that I need the scoop on the D6 to attenuate it.

I like using a Beta 52 and a SM57 in addition to the DI. I'm sure a D6, D112, or 421 would each kick ass in their own way too.
