Advice on this drum tone please.

Ok, so I got a buddy who's a pretty awesome drummer and he miked up his kit and thrashed out some blasts and fills and shit, and asked me to post this up to see what you guys think of the raw tones he's getting. Now don't ask me what mic's he used as I don't have a clue, but I think it sounds pretty good to me, though I'm not sure about that snare, it's a bit too ringy for my tastes.

the snare just sound's a bit small compared to the rest of the kit, but overall it sounds great and that guy is pretty fucking good.

I personally LOVE the snare. So much fucking character! That's probably why I'm so into pingy snares. I love all the little overtones and sublties of it.

i second that - the snare wouldn't be my cup of tea, i'd have to gate it and sample it next to something a little more low end like a ludwig black b or a nice v-paul snare sample. the kick sounds very pantera=ish i think if it were and eq'd a little more to take high end out a little

i'd love to hear a .wav instead - maybe try take some chops (hint hint)

That was some awesome performance. He is so goddamn tight, ESPECIALLY with the kicks! I can't believe how consistent he plays, wow, I'm blown away. Makes my drumming skill look like a fucking fart in the desert. The drum sound is pure love as well, although I would prefer a more powerful snare for my music but that snare totally works for technical death metal and shit like that.

I think I would sacrifice one of my balls to play the kicks like that...

Yeah, as much as he told me it's raw, no doubt there's some eq and compression going on. Thanks for all the comments, would like Lasse, Ermin and Marcus to chime in too though.

considering he's telling you it's raw when it's most definitely not, i wouldn't be surprised if the kick is sample replaced as well.

i must confess though, i still want that sample =D

I spoke to him today and he meant raw as in no samples, but he didn't make that clear at first lol, so it is processed, but not sample replaced.
