Air Force (Mike from Symph X, Rhino, etc)

Yea I downloaded the EP with artwork. I expected much better with the lineup. The production was absolute shit IMO.

Wow, that's about the nicest thing I have heard anyone say about this.
Yeah, when you are going with the whole "Supergroup" angle, you better deliver. This is barely passable as a first demo for an amatuer group.

Yeap I agree 100%. They must have spent more on the artwork, than the production, and in this day and age with pro tools etc there is just no excuse for piss poor quality from a band with these musicians.

A little more, haha. (I did the artwork/layout, didn't do the cover.)

Well, it's the first try for this lineup working on opposite sides of the world.
Ango is the guitarist and songwriter and is in Taiwan. It's not really meant to be a big budget production, which is why the songs are free to download. Still shows promise right???

Promise? Yes.
But once again, when your obvious promotion tactic is the experience of the members, you should come out stronger.
As I said, if this were some local power metal band, I would say, "Yeah, they got something here"

Not to be a jerk, but seriously, what was the point of this project?

Holy shit, you weren't kidding about the production quality. I thought that such severe statements might be a touch overblown...but I see now that they weren't. I'm pretty much in agreement with everything said here. This lineup could do so much better.

Am I the only one who thinks it's not bad at all? And the production is not that bad either. I mean, it's MySpace, so the sound is not stellar. If the final product doesn't sound better though, there might be a problem.

I thought it sounded OK, but I'm kind of scared to say so! :D

I mean shit, it's not like Roy Z produced it.

Download the MP3s from the Myspace and burn them to a CD and give it a spin.

Considering I listened to the WAV files that came with the large download the production on it still sounds like ass. Its not a myspace low quality problem its a horrible production problem. No need to burn to a CD and spin I have 5.1 surround sound on the PC. The drums are absolutely pure shit. I have heard better drum tones from a 50.00 casio keyboard.

I understand its a free EP but cmon if you wanna release something to the public and get some buzz with your high caliber lineup at least take some time to make it sound listenable. Again with today's technology there is simply just no excuse for something sounding this bad production wise.

Look, it's really nothing more than a glorified demo. As a drummer, you noticed the drum sound. To me, the guitars are too low in the mix on a few songs. Granted, it's not perfect. To me the song "Moonlight Fantasy" shows real promise.

And they are not advertising themselves as a 'supergroup'. That's a name that Jasonic gave them in his first post. (No offense Jasonic). They have never claimed to be a supergroup (even though they are one).

Anyway, thanks for all the feedback, I'll be sure to forward it to them.

Not sure I get the bashing here. I agree that the production isn't the greatest, but it isn't awful. You still can get an idea of the songs.

For the price of free, it isn't bad. If you paid money for it, then maybe you'd have the right to complain.

Actually ....................

With today's technology where people DOWNLOAD cd's for free and make this business a horrible place to work if you're trying to make a little bit of money, there are all the more reasons for ending up with a product not sounding "perfect".

An "unknown" band can't throw away $10.000 or more on going to a real studio with a real producer - heck, most signed bands can't even do that anymore.

The bands will get anywhere from nothing to nothing (yeah well ...) in advances and / or recording budgets from labels these days, so most bands now are "forced" to record at home on protools or whatever, and since none of these guys are skilled producers/engineers, it'll end up sounding like this.

Get used to it - the more people download illegally, the more the "bad production" will become the norm. Welcome to 2010.

Trust me I heard all the problems with the sound of this demo. The drums was just a quick example. I could have got into how muddy the bottom end sounds as well as other issues.

It didn't take jasonic for me to come to the conclusion that Ango went out to get some well known names. You got 3 well known musicians so its just common sense that this band would be held on higher standards.

Anyway, thanks for all the feedback, I'll be sure to forward it to them.

No problem. I do think it has potential but a lot of tweaking needs to be done. "Moonlight Fantasy" does indeed have promise.

Ok so illegal downloading is to blame for bad productions in 2010?

My old band back in 1994 went in a small studio in Albany NY (Cotton Hill Studios) on a 500.00 budget and made a demo that sounds better than this.

If you're claiming you can only get a decent sounding recording if you dish out 10,000.00 well that is ridiculous.

As to the technology its not all that hard. A few simple online tutorials can go a long way, and wont cost 10,000.00! When I started my radio show I didnt even know a thing about photoshop. When it came time, and I realized I needed some eye catching ads and graphics to help promote my show I took it upon myself to learn a few tricks of the trade via tutorials free online. Same with learning how to operate DJ software. When I got into my show I had no idea what SAM Broadcaster even was but I took the time to learn it so I could provide a good sounding show.

I understand this is a free demo, but I still stand by my word. I don't get these horrible sounding productions, and don't believe you need 10,000.00 to make a recording sound "decent". If my band could do it with 500.00 16 years ago, it can obviously be done today.

I was going to ask, what did you think of the actual songs?
