I've always thought that Russell Allen is a great vocalist and that SX are great when they're playing fluid, neoclassical-tinged power metal ("Out of the Ashes" etc.) but that their albums get bogged down in this dull palm-muted chugging that seems to be their default mode. But I guess I've come to terms with that part of their sound and started to feel that it makes for an effective contrast with the more melodic or symphonic components of their style.
