Albums currently kicking your ass

Yeah, the new Suffocation was nice but I still need to spin it a few more times to see how it holds and to form an opinon on it.

Both Gorguts' and Ulcerate's latest started good for me but on repeat listens they've become a chore to sit through; specially Gorguts. Doesn't help that they are both rather long by DM standards.

Glad I'm not the only person who gets antsy with death metal albums that are over an hour long.

30-45 minutes is the real sweet spot for me.

Yeah, that's what I'd consider the ideal length of a death metal album. I feel different when it comes to death doom albums tho, I think the difference in tempo between it and death metal (including tech, melodic and brutal) and a more marked focus on creating atmosphere leads to songs need more time to convey their ideas.

but I don't have an album by them I don't like to some degree.

Yeah that's also how I feel about them. I even liked Handful of Stars quite a bit. If I had to pick a favorite though, I'd have to go with the consensus, and pick one of Autumn Aurora or Blood in our Wells.

1. Autumn Aurora 2. Forgotten Legends 3. Blood in Our Wells 4. Microcosmos 5. Songs of Grief and Solitude 6. Estrangement 7. Swans Road 8. Handful of Stars 9. That really generic one they released last year.

Probably need to give Estrangement another shot. Haven't listened to it in years.
