Albums currently kicking your ass

Already have a walkman on the way but oh well.

Same, my fucking tape deck died last week.

My question is why anyone would think that the blatant nostalgiawank that Fenriz is spearheading in Darkthrone now is actually worth anything when you could just listen to bands like Enforcer or Wolf since they do that FAR better.

How Fenriz believes he's championing "classic metal" with every album he's done after FOAD is a load of horseshit. "Hey, guys. Remember this? Remember HELLHAMMER, guys? REMEMBER CELTIC FROST? REMEMBER MANOWAR? Y-you see how KNOWLEDGEABLE I am?". Darkthrone's music after The Cult is Alive is utterly forgettable garbage that survives purely on pretentious posturing and musical quotation with no substance to speak of whatsoever.

I disagree, also new Darkthrone is ten billion times better than Children of Bodom. ;)

To your credit, I do think latter-day Bodom is pretty awful. My opinions on what is Darkthrone's unabashed "retro-metal" phase fully stand.

Even if your rant was correct, it only addresses Fenriz's contributions to the albums and just like @H.P. Lovecraft's irrational rants, totally overlooks or suspiciously avoids Nocturno Culto's contributions to the albums.

They, roughly, write 50% of the album each.

Arctic Thunder is good imo and not that retro (or at least not in the same way), but agreed regarding all his other recent shit.

The album before the most recent had an 11 minute Agent Steel ripoff. That's probably a quarter of the album on its own.

EDIT: Correction, 14 minute
THANK YOU. I was going to point that out.

Not that I think calling regressive metal bands a "rip off" is a relevant criticism, as it's only a criticism in itself if the band pretends to be original. Darkthrone don't do this, they tell you exactly who they rip off.

But I'll bite, which Agent Steel song did "Leave No Cross Unturned" rip off?

Nice Pitchfork logic there, bud. It's good to see that you didn't notice that I address that very attitude in my "rant".

Honestly I don't remember, I don't even like Agent Steel but iirc the main riff is the same as one of their well-known songs from the first two albums, and Darkthrone tried (and failed) to get a lot of mileage out of that one riff with that song. Actually, listening to the song again (I only brought it up because the comparison was made a few years ago) maybe it isn't even a direct ripoff, but it's just about the most predictable and simplistic speed metal riff you can make and I forgot that he even tries to do falsetto on it. It's just totally derivative retro metal from a try-hard wanting to score oldskool points and I don't know how something so generic and derivative can excite you.

"B-b-but HBB! It's OK because he SAID who he was ripping off!"

No it's all awful.

I only really like CoB from Something Wild to Follow the Reaper and it's not like they're huge favorites or anything. So, you're not exactly scoring any points there.

Who is scoring points? Are you keeping track, captain suddenly an autistic poster?

I never said @H.P. Lovecraft must like new Darkthrone, I said his criticisms of new Darkthrone were irrational. I find it difficult to believe someone could find new Darkthrone unlistenable and garbage yet enjoy Marilyn Manson, Children of Bodom and so on.

I don't know how something so generic and derivative can excite you.

Don't you exclusively watch homemade grainy webcam porn? Same principle. :D

That he's ripped off Agent Steel hasn't even been established, so calm down.

I was making fun of this-

utterly ridiculous point you made.
