Albums currently kicking your ass

Wish I listened sooner and should have since I loved their last effort Heart of the Netherworld. Amazing mid-paced atmodeath with some minor BM influences. On first listen I already know it will be in my top 10.

Desolate Shrine - Deliverance from the Godless Void

Chevalier - A Call to Arms

Very few people have been discussing this great little EP from this year. It's a Finnish speed metal band that brings some serious 1980s vibes. The music is catchy and just the right amount raw for my liking. Emma Grönqvist fits perfectly and shows that there are still female metal singers that aren't gimmicky and annoying.

I don't know I think there a decent amount of female metal singers that aren't gimmicky. Or perhaps I am thinking more along the lines of grindcore than, say, standard metal genres. Have you heard Rachel from False's vocals and what an incredible live presence?

Wampyrinacht - We Will Be Watching: Les Cultes de Satan et les Mystères de la Mort

This is one of those sleeper albums. The band recorded it between 2000 and 2002, but it was completely unreleased until this year. The album is full of great black metal in the classic Greek style, featuring epic riffs and beautiful use of keyboards. "Under the Ruined Bridge" is the best song, but the whole thing is quite good.

EDIT: The photos of the band members on The Metal Archives are also incredible. Check them out ASAP.

Yeah, this Rachel doesn't do much for me anyway.

She's an excellent vocalist. False is an excellent group. Only band that sounds similar to Emperor worth a shit, imo...because only the first Emperor album is good.

That Wampyrinacht album is pretty good. Super funny.

Nazxul's Totem and Black Seed are much better than anything by Emperor to me, and so is the much more GMD canon Witchcraft by Obtained Enslavement.

I do love Nazxul, actually. However, generally allergic to keyboards and everything symphonic in my metal unless its like Satanic Warmaster. I'll check out Obtained Enslavement for the fun of it. Maybe I'll enjoy something about it....

Massive album. Worth the wait.

I got a promo of this album a few months ago and I thought the first several tracks were so boring that I didn't even bother finishing it, let alone writing a review.

I'm considering revisiting certain promos to bolster my reviews of new releases, so maybe I'll try that one again even though it was boring.

@Baroque

It's Pentateuch by Forsaken. It's billed as an epic traditional doom metal album, so it might not be your thing. Then again, I hated it so you might like it a lot.
