Literally JUST sold my Crypt box-set reissue of that and their first demo for 75 bucks. Pretty sure I listened to it once...maybe.

I've got a few other Crypt box-set reissues of random euro death metal bands if you are interested. Furbowl, Authorize, etc.

I could never put my finger on what it was either. It's like the guitar tone was bland, the drumming had no personality, the vocals were forgettable, even songs from their split that they re-recorded like this sounds boring compared to the original:





It could just be me though.

I used to like Seeming Salvation quite a bit but it hasn't aged well at all for me. Same case for a lot of the more obscure Swedeath bands, actually.

Abhoth, Afflicted, Authorize, Cemetary, Centinex, Darkified, Desultory, Excruciate, Megaslaughter, Morpheus, Sorcery, Utumno, Wombbath...

Edit: Therion might be the biggest offender. I once counted Beyond Sanctorum amongst the absolute elite of old-school death metal but now I'd say it only has four worthwhile songs (Future Consciousness, Pandemonic Outbreak, Cthulhu, and The Way). To be fair though, those four songs are better than everything the above bands recorded.

I once counted Beyond Sanctorum amongst the absolute elite of old-school death metal but now I'd say it only has four worthwhile songs (Future Consciousness, Pandemonic Outbreak, Cthulhu, and The Way). To be fair though, those four songs are better than everything the above bands recorded.

Probably controversial but I've always preferred Of Darkness overall, but the drumming on Beyond Sanctorum is god-tier stuff.

I've never heard Abhoth, Authorize or Darkified before but I still hold albums like Prodigal Sun, Across the Horizon and Internal Caustic Torments in high regard. The rest of the bands you mentioned that I have heard have released stuff that is cool but nothing that really kicks my ass.

Of course none of it can hold a torch to Like an Ever Flowing Stream or Fornever Laid to Rest etc.

Prodigal Sun is great, though largely because it doesn't sound like Swedeath. Need to revisit that Utumno EP, used to be a favorite but I always forget about it now.

That album never really hit me until last year.
