Albums for depression....

Katatonia - Last Fair Deal Gone Down, Tonight's Decision, Tonight's Music
Anathema - Judgment, Alternative 4
Opeth - Morningrise
My Dying Bride - Like Gods Of The Sun, Angel And The Dark River, Dreadful Hours
BloodRose - Spectral Angels Symphony (especially Forgotten Chapter Of Time!), Into Oblivion (not yet released)

If one Anathema album, then it's either Alternative 4 or Serenades, AFDTE ain't fuckin' depressive, get outta here!!

And if one Katatonia album, it's one of the first 3, Discouraged Ones is deninitely a lot colder than LFDGD. Anyway, my list would be something like:

- ANATHEMA - Alternative 4 (perhaps also Serenades, esp. They Die)
- KATATONIA - Discouraged Ones, Brave Muder Day
- MY DYING BRIDE - The Cry Of Mankind (song), Light At The End...
- SHAPE OF DESPAIR - Angels Of Distress

Little chance of surviving a weekend with those I guess... Especially taking in consideration that I live in a flat on the 15th floor with the edge of the balcony just 2 meters to my right from this position... :)

Requiem, i really like your threads;)

Well, mostly it's just specific songs that i listen to when i am in a depressing mood

Katatonia- Discouraged ones / Tonight's decision
James - Alaskan pipeline
Anathema - Alone / Judgement CD
Damien Jurado - Ghost of David. Flowers in the yard
Graham Coxon- Crow sit on blood tree
Denison Witmer - Los Angeles, Sarah's bridge
Kevin Gilbert - Song for a dead friend
Lowgold - Out of reach
Songs:Ohia - too much to count
Midnight choir - Unsung heroine, Where love resides,Electric rain
Moonababies - Over my head
Penitent - the black lake,a mournful bridge over a river of tears
Red House Painters - Katy Song
Tocotronic - Ein kurzes Lied um es auf einen Anrufbeantworter zu singen (for all you germans out there, hehe)
Ulver - Kveldssanger
deus - right as rain, the magic hour
My Dying Bride - Everything
REM - Country Feedback
The Notwist - too much to count
Placebo - Passive agressive

Ok , sorry for this very long list but thats the thread i have always been waiting for. Don't know why i did not open it myself.
Thanks to requiem!

Mayhem- DMDS
Ulver- Kveldsanger
Lacuna Coil- In a reverie (sp?)
Also possibly
Dimmu Borgir- Spiritual Black Dimensions
Death- Symbolic (depressing on so many levels, you know the main one  )

OK, now why is there no doom (well, there's Lacuna, who are sort of) in there? I don't really find doom to be depressing. Infact, it lifts me up, I end up feeling in a serene mood with good doom. If I'm wound up and I need to relax, Black metal with lots of blast beats does it for me (which is why Mayhem are on the list).

What can I say, I'm odd (but you all knew that already ;))

Oh, you've got to be kidding me. Not depressive!?! It's so emotionally crushing in many different ways and depression is a big part of it. Check out the tracks 'Pressure', 'Leave No Trace', 'Barriers' etc.
The whole album's based on suicide (whether literal or metaphorical) for gods sake.. a fine day to exit? car at the beach with clothes strewn towards the water? one missed call on the phone?

it wasn't an offence

I know! I was just teasing you about using a 'Y' instead of an 'I' in your post.

So I said, "Y would". Get it?

ahem... :p

Vinnie: "[...] ANATHEMA says with this album that it is a fine day to exit and try to just leave all that behind and start again, it's quite fresh. People talk about it and look at the cover and see the title, A Fine Day To Exit, and ask " Is it a suicide ? ". No, it's not a suicide, it's a faking suicide. It's about a new birth, starting again, start a whole new life." [/QUOTE]
