Albums of the Year: 2006

over 300 albums? put that in perspective - its like a new album EVERY day of the week (and some). i dont know where people find the time to listen to all these bands AND still listen to bands they claim are their favourites.

Well, at Bodybuilding.com, littledave (Chuck Schuldiner >>> God) claimed to have listened to every metal band in existance, then claimed over 20,000 metal files on Soul Seek - but then "lost" them all.

Katatonia - The Great Cold Distance
Enslaved - Ruun
Hammers of Misfortune - The Locust Years
Goatwhore - A Haunting Curse
Unearthly Trance - The Trident
Misery Index - Discordia
Frightmare - Bringing Back the Bloodshed
Daylight Dies - Dismantling Devotion
Phobia - Cruel
Dim Mak - Knives of Ice

Picking ten that I actually liked from this year came surprisingly easy. There's still several I haven't really checked out either... Amon Amarth, Darkthrone, Sulaco, Martyr, Incriminated, etc.

It's not that hard. Listening to one album takes about an hour (more or less) so you can get in two new albums a day with no problem, then the rest of the day can be for favorite bands or just for whatever the fuck you wish to listen to.

In no order:

Agalloch
Drudkh
Wolves In The Throne Room
Celtic Frost
Peste Noire
My Dying Bride
Negura Bunget
Mirrorthrone
Dissection
Ihsahn
Katatonia
Xasthur
Summoning
Vader

I was expecting Shining to be on this list by now, but it appears their new album will get a 2007 release.

Unearthly Trance's album just didn't sound right to me...it didn't click it was too atmospheric at some points

translation: im unemployed

also listening to an album once does not constitute listening to it properly, which was my point (given i didnt say that, but that was where i was going). finding the actual time to do it isnt that amazing ...

Cannibal Corpse - Kill
Darkthrone - The Cult Is Alive (yes I liked this album)

I have yet to hear Napalm Death & Suffocation's releases this year and I just bought a few today that I haven't got through yet, but so far here's potential top 10 shit:

Amon Amarth - With Oden On Our Side
Dismember - The God That Never Was
Slayer - Christ Illusion
Anata - The Conductor's Departure
Skinless - Trample the Weak, Hurdle the Dead
Jungle Rot - War Zone
Scar Symmetry - Pitch Black Progress
Sinister - Afterburner
Deceased - As the Weird Travel On
Unleashed - Midvinterblot
Unmerciful - Unmercifully Beaten
Decapitated - Organic Hallucinosis (it says 2005 on the back of the cd, but if I remember right it was released in '06 in the US. So I'll leave it as a ?)

..and a few I'm probably forgetting...

Dude, how is listening to one album twice a day (if your theory is true...IF!) contituent of unemployment. That's some really bizarro logic there. Anyway, I heard only like 120(?) or so. It wasn't that hard. I even have a girlfriend, job, school, moderation of this place (granted I was given that power recently), and a noise project to do. I am crazy!

Unearthly Trance's album just didn't sound right to me...it didn't click it was too atmospheric at some points

I as well thought it was pretty crappy. It wasn't...them. Now, Season Of Seance, Science Of Silence is brilliant.
