IMO nothing really comes close to these two albums, maybe a few burzum tracks if were talking strictly black metal

the tone on eternal devastation is so fucking killer

All three albums (two albums and a demo comp, anyways) have great buzzsaw guitar tones. If you haven't heard the other two they're worth a shot; Aspid's is basically a more technical and proggy take on Eternal Devastation, while Ulysses Siren is a Bay Area band that considers Destruction one of their biggest influences, though with some more Maiden-y melodic elements mixed in. Sifringer is the almighty god of riffs, and all those wise enough to drink from his fountain are so similarly blessed.

Lately I've been obsessing over the riffs on Hellhammer/early Celtic Frost stuff and Obsessed by Cruelty by Sodom in particular.



Today I threw this on after the riff got stuck in my head.
