Alchemist - Organasm

[The Angry Robot]

This is the first Australian band I've checked out and I must say I'm impressed. I picked this up from Relapse mailorder about a week ago and it's definitely growing on me. It's not as 'exotic' as I thought it would be but still plenty of interesting rhythms, twists and turns to keep your horns raised in the air. I'm sure some of you Opeth freaks would get into it.

Excellent, excellent CD. Can't wait to hear their new one when it comes out in the fall. I think they sound similar to Neurosis, but better, IMO.

These guys are amazing! We've played with them a few times live & the energy eminating from the stage is equal to, or greater than most live bands we see in this forsaken country, foreign or otherwise. Rod & Adam (singer/guitarist/keyboardist & drummer respectively) organise Australia's largest Metal Festival (which I believe is also the largest in the Southern Hemisphere...?) - Metal For The Brain, a fundraising event showcasing 30+ bands every year too www.metalforthebrain.com . Definitely proud to know these guys & say how damn good they are!!

I have 'Jar of kingdom' too, but i reccomend to steer clear of it untill you are familiar with them, or you will hate it.

Alchemist are a great band, and have done good things for the australian metal scene.

They are very unique. And who needs dani filths wretched screaches when the singer from this band goes higher, and only when he needs to. Psychadelic, and progressive, can't wait till the next album.

They are probably the biggest metal band here. Am I wrong?

But I would have no idea about our local scene. I used to.

I was hoping some of you folks from the Land from down under would get on this thread. Organasm is quickly becoming one of my favorite albums. I love bands like this - the more you listen the more are taken in. I think this will definitely stand the test of time.

Any other Australian bands worth checking out??

Dude, if you love Organasm... check out their CD before that, "Spiritech". That's one of my fave albums. It has "Road to Ubar", and a heap of other awesome songs.
I always wondered how long it would take for Alchemist to get recognition. I could never understand why there'd only be 20 people at a gig in Sydney...

To hear some of the best stuff Alchemist has to offer, get a hold of 'Garden Of Eroticism' off the Lunasphere album. As for Aussie bands, surprisingly nothing not already mentioned comes to mind. I actually aske the same question on a previous thread, and someone hit me back with about 30 Aussie Metal Bands. Now only if I could remember who posted the reply.........

They are terrible now, but their early CD's are awesome death-metal.

ALCHEMIST are one of my favourite Australian bands \m/ I am sooo happy they have signed to Relapse, finally more opportunities to spread the word o/s. For those of you who have not already, check out their website it features some samples from ' Jar of Kingdom', ' Lunaspere', ' Spiritech' and 'Organasm'. I have the first 3 albums and I love them.

That's funny, I have the exact opposite opinion I love their new stuff, but I think their old stuff is just generic death metal. It's kind of like Therion to me, where they transitioned their sound and it became enjoyable to my ears. Guess it's depends on what ya' like, 'cause I've heard others say they hate Therion's new stuff, too.
