Alestorm and LSD Studio!

Turn those guitars up or drums down and I'd say its damn near perfect! Vocals could be a bit 'bigger'/more upfront.

This sounds great!

Loving the weirdass watermarks... what the hell is that exactly?

Sounds like it's pumping a little bit during the fast double-bass bit in the intro.
Guitar tone is real nice. Was that a 5150? Mic setup on the cab? What are those stone picks you use?

Drums are a little loud in the mix, and honestly, sound kinda phony. They're clean, and the overall tones are nice, but the snare could use some more dynamics.... it's a little 'too perfect' at this point.
The main lead vocal has to come way up as well.

Oh, and no-one can say my guitar isn't the best!

thanks.
guitars were 2tracks of 2ch recto and 2 tracks of 5150 through engl v30 cab, one sm57 about 0.5 cm to the side (from center of cone), 1,6 cm from grille and about 10degr. angled.

api 3124+ and RME converters, no EQ 'cept HP and LP.

the weird thing is that the overheads-tracks are really loud and the snare is about 70-80% the original snaretrack, at one point I thought it doesn't sound very real myself and turned the sample off...didn't change anything, that's how his snare sounded, ask Gavin ;).
plus he was a fucking great drummer, never had such a consistent hitter in the studio - the drums are not quantized (besides some kicks in the doublebasspart that had to be fixed) or anything, besides thta minor thing it's 100% how he played it....was fucking impressed myself with how good he was.

there are songs where the guitars are louder (the thrashier songs), this one is more about orchestral-athmospheric shit.

thanks.

to my ears the guitar tone is AWESOME/PERFECT. The funny thing is that it sounds like an ENGL tone to me :) (whereas you used a 5150 and a Recto...).

The drum sound is great too.

Even if this song is supposed to be an "atmospheric/orchestral" one, the keyboard parts are still too loud IMO.

And i dig this "pig squeal" watermark :)

thanks. looks like keys will be reduced a bit before release ;)

100% my fault. I have to live with a whiney as fuck keyboard player.
Gavin... sounds cool man.. fun band.... regarding your keyboardist though, what he really should be whining about is getting some better sounds happening. the main melody is very cool and "traditional" sounding... whatever that means... and it's just killed by that über-cheese synth patch.... that's like a £100 family karaoke Casio tone there.. and it's waaaay too loud, as others have mentioned... honestly though, wouldn't be so much of an issue it it actually sounded like a "fiddle" or an accordian (i'd vote for the fiddle). yeah, if i were him i wouldn't be whining about being loud in the mix.. i'd be hiding my head. this kind of thing is a prime expample of why bands should not be democracies... not most bands anyway. if you have the midi for this, try to replace this sound before the mix is finalized. everything else seems to fit the "pirate" vibe, so that's my only gripe.

Cool dude. BTW, I really hate to be brutal with the critique, but I know this is a big one for you & pulling punches wouldn't be doing you guys any favours.

i also agree on the fact that the keyboard sound very cheap/cheesy

Is it "with the power of ale, he could not fail"?

If so, :kickass:

Cool mix and song, i agree with what has been said about the keys though, but it's cool piraty stuff... AARRGGGG MATEY!! AS I SWEPT THE DECKS ON THE 7 SEAS!! AAARRRGG!!
