It is nearly impossible to shread well with light strings becasue they have too much give. I don't know how anyone can do that. I do play with a pretty thick pic but even still, you need that for the trash elements especially if you are playing bodom type pieces. 8's would be just insane. Not to mention that light stings have no sustain.

yeah i jus tswitched to 9 for one set, and i don't like them, so im gonna go back to 10's

I use 10s on my explorer in E and 10s on my ESP in D.

I use mostly Ernie Ball .010 set , two guitars , one tuned to C , the other one tuned to standard . I'm going to try DR strings also . I really don't like D'Addarios , they wear out too easily .

my warlock has 13-72's in drop-c
my explorer has 10-48's in e standard
my custom misfits guitar (i built it so its awesome!) has 11-53's in Eb
my wartribe has 14-73's in drop-C#
and my mII has 11-53's in D
