I heard the new GNR song about a week ago (it's available at Brave Words.com) It's in the same vein as Oh My God (read: Incredibly Mediocre and Industrial Sounding).

Velvet Revolver is more Guns N Roses than Guns N Roses.

I bought the new Metallica album in fact I've bought too many albums after the Black Album. I don't have a problem shelling out for the cost of the follow up to Use Your Illusions 1 and 2. Yes even if it's 12 or even 14 years too late. It's not Guns anymore but does that mean Axl can't make a good album?

This one's doomed by the fact that it's been a running joke for the past 15 years due to all of the delays and dollars. Assuming that was has leaked over the past couple of years is similar to what is going to be on the final album, then it doesn't look too promising IMO.

well i know 1994 is wrong, they started orking on an album but everything from 1994-1998 was basically canned after duff and matt left in 1998. axl started over in 1998

I'd give them effectively 2 good albums, since Appetite was great throughout & the two Use Your Illusion discs could be edited down to a single good album.

first off, this album is like a Chinese democracy..it is never going to happen. Also , it doesn't matter how much work you put into a GNR album, it still won't top appetite.

i saw a good review on it in Rolling Stone... I was actually pretty surprised... I was expecting it to get crapped all over. So... we'll see how it actually is.

I hope you're not going to take that review with anything more than a grain of salt. Rolling Stone gave St. Anger a strong review for Christ sakes! The same magazine ranked Duane Allman, Jerry Garcia and Jack White over Randy Rhodes, Malmsteen and EVH! The rule of thumb for myself is if Rolling Stone likes an album, it probably sucks.

....as if I needed confirmation. The mob rules review was utterly worthless. Namely ignoring that Sign of the Southern Cross is one of the greatest metal songs ever. Johnny Ramone is suddenly faster than Iommi? I'm very inclined to question that, but it still doesn't change the fact that Ramone's a shitty guitar player.

The Maiden review is horrible. He spends more time talking about Rainbow than he does about Maiden! And does he have to bring up Johnny Ramone in every review? Ramone may be culturally influential, but his music sucked.

And to even compare Adrian Smith to Ramone goes to show Rolling Stone was much more concerned with the culture than actually enjoying what came out of the speakers.

Any mag that considers itself the bastion of journalistic integrity while exalting Kurt Cobain as cult icon is one big downer in my book. :zombie:
