Listening to "Far From The Sun" for the first time right now, bonus tracks and all and I'm not sure about this album, but I am leaning towards "sucks balls."

His voice just blows. What's sad is that there are a few songs that have a cool groove going, and his voice just absolutely kills it.

Hell, I gave up on 'em when Tuonela was released, aside from one or two songs, that album is one big pile of overrated cow dung.

I agree with that. I was hoping Tuonela was just a misstep. I was wrong.

Elegy is pretty cool, but the vocals are atrocious and the whole album is overshadowed by My Kantele (sp?) which is frickin' brilliant.

Tuonela bores the snot out of me.

am universum is better than tuonela, and elegy is better than both. the new one sucks, and i havent heard too much of the older stuff.

Heh, the funny thing is, I would never have even considered the vocals on Elegy to be an issue. They're sung very much from the throat, and lack total vibrato, but to me it matches the atmosphere of the music.

Elegy isn't just any old album, it's a tribute to the Kalevala. The lyrics represent tradition and history. I'm sure if you hear the Kalevala recited, it's probably not that far off in vocal styles. (That's a complete guess, but it's how I imagine it now anyway, heh).

Elegy's musical inspirations are fantastic too, it's practically world music trapped in a retro Zeppelinesque timewarp. Yeah baby!
