Been listening to Elegy in my truck for the past 2 weeks. They really are quite amazing. Their newer stuff isn't quite as spectacular, but even it's listenable.

Either way, they're one of the other bands who really can pull off the growl + clean vocals combo as well as Opeth. They're definitely less aggressive and heavy than Opeth, but they certainly have their own unique sound. I really need to buy Tales from the Thousand Lakes next as from my MP3 samplings it's definitely their second best.

I have Tales from the Thousand Lakes, but nothing really stands out to me...maybe I should give it another spin.

Amazing band, love every release and the last 2 albums were the return of a pioneer scandinavian metal band, not as good as Elegy but close... Definetly give Silent Water and Eclipse a try. Tomi Joutsen the new vocalist is excellent combo singer with some mean growls and powerful clean singing.

Tales from the Thousand Lakes is a good example of an album that was probably amazing when it was new but sounds like ass now that it doesn't sound fresh and you realize that the clean singer sounds like a gnome with bowel cancer. Elegy and Tuonela are good though.

Amorphis, back in 1995 put a unique sound together for "death" metal. Obviously, not to everyone's taste. It is what it is. You either like it or you don't. "Elegy" is a fantastic album, one of my all-time favorites. TFTTL is a decent album, nothing more and notheing less. "Silent Water" and "Eclipse" are strong albums. Amorphis are an important band for me.

I just listened to Thousand Lakes. 1st time in a long time.
Black Winter Day is the song that got me hooked on them. Still really like the album.
Elegy is their best.
Great 90's Cock Rock !!

Don't really care for the rest of their work.

one of those few bands that have their own sound and you recoganize immediately
