A friend of mine asked me this, so I'm forwarding it to you all experts:

"how would a 100 watt tube amp sound through a 4x12 with 120watt handling? would that be ok? cause i see most cabs that go with tube amps are like 300watts and i dont wanna buy a tube head and blow my cab out cause that would suck ass. "

Thanks

Your friend will be fine

Tube amps can actually generate up to four times their rated output during transinets, but speaker are rated at rms (average ) levels. as long as the cab is rated higher than the amp it doesnt matter how much more it is

A high powered amp going through a lower rated cab is THE sound of rock for the most part, cone distortion was the hallmark of heavy music for decades.
