I've never heard that before, although it seems kinda spanish to me..
About the smashing plates thing, you do have a point there! Indeed it's kinda traditional to smash plates and glasses when somebody is dancing, but it has to do mostly with the greek popular music!

As for the drinking though, i really don't think you can compete the Greeks, especially the people of Crete! They drink a lot, and i mean a lot!
