Man, I'm glad I freuqent a bass players forum.. every time a bass discussion comes up some funny slamming goes on. I feel so alienated ..boo hoo

Now what if the bass player actually plays basslines?(ala...steve d`giorgio,alex webster,john myung) and not just mirrored rythem guitar lines?
would you mix it along w/the bass drum in stead? or just leave it as its own seperate instrument(sounds dumb because it is a seperate instrument)

that's similar to how my band works our bass parts...probably 50% of it more or less mirrors the guitar, 40% strays away from the guitar and goes with the kick/snare, and maybe 10% of the time he doesn't really mirror either

then throw into the mix that some parts are slapping, and others are finger picked so you get a LOT of levels varying

...which probably makes it a bitch to mix, but we hire a friend to do that
