This is why I love Car and Driver. Comparo between the new VW GTI and Civic Si, the opening statement has a blurb on the last Civic Si, which didn't go over favorably because non-US markets got a much cooler car, the Civic Type-R:

We felt as if Honda had sent us a bag full of stems and seeds while the rest of the world got the "kind" stuff.

VW won btw. I'd rather have the Honda, duh.

anyway, man, the new GTI is one beautiful car. ive seen a couple recently. stunning. hondas = meh. Si cant shake the commuter car image i have of civics.

not sure I'd agree with you there, but then again beauty is in the eye of the beholder ... the profile is horrible and looks bulky and rear heavy ... reminds me of a 2 door Toyota Matrix.
the 08 Scirocco looks like the winner from WV ... heck even that new retractable hardtop EOS looks better

Yes but it goes like a scalded cat man, ive been in one they are a monster. The handling is so nice no body roll they dont cock up the back tyre like the older golfs do on high speed corners. You get the German build quality what more could you want man.

the GTI would ANNIHILATE all but the S2000, and since pretty much everyone who drives a Honda is a fucking twat anyway, it'd annihilate that "roadster" too

I will have to give one point to the mini's, if you get a flat you can just interchange tyres with your wheel barrow

The GTI and the s2000 are in slightly different leagues though.

In one of the production car championships over here with all Evo's and Wrx' etc. an R32 came in for the last half of the season and absolutly creamed everyone hahaha
