Ive been in an Aussie GTI which is probably worse then the US model. You can get R32's over here.

Buy an proper import model that hasnt been tampered with. Im sure VW has some deal with BMW so the minis can just keep up with so as not to lose face.

Dude, the R32 WAS released in America, very limited numbers. There was a dude who lived at my apartment shitz that had one. He was some sauerkraut fag who didn't know what the fuck he had though.

Anyhow, VW is awesome. But the reliability? BSSSHHHHHHZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZTTT.... no thanks. I need something that'll last.

The Mk1 Golfs weigh about 800Kg out of the factory the new golfs weigh like 1300-1400 or so.

I dont know how you can say they arnt reliable, the build quality isnt matched by any Jap car. Europe is in another league altogether.

Jap cars have never proven themselves to me. A good example would be comparing my Golf with my mates Datsun of around the same vintage. The build quality is lightyears ahead of the datto.

Im not saying all German/VW cars are unfuckable as are not all Jap cars ive seen nothing thus far to say Jap cars are better.

while the reliability may be an issue with Mexican-built Jettas, the GTI has no such problems

i recently learned first hand that basically all the countries surrounding the Asian countires have a big problem with anything Asian made ... some weird shit.

also, while I personally would buy a WV over a Honda just because of cetain looks and features, I recognize it would be a really dumb fucking move as far as reliability.
