Are you sure?

Because the 3-series was always built in Frankfurt (or maybe Munich, I forget which). I say "was always" because my 2001 325xi was built in Germany. I should know, since I waited 8 weeks while it was assembled from scratch based on my custom order.

Don't know if that changed in 2002, but I can't imagine BMW would all of a sudden decide to take their benchmark car and NOT build it in Germany.

it might have been a particular stage of the assembly process that was done in south africa, or parts or something from south africa, but i definitely recall something about it
