Another Fucking Religion Thread

actually bluewizard is right. Satanists don't believe in a physical Satan, but rather worship themselves. its a direct opposition to Christian values.

Still its bullshit. It may be an opposition to Christian values but creates a legion of self-obsessed individuals.

Well that would be the LaVayan form I believe. Orthodox Satanists directly Worship Him.

I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure that's right.

I read a story for my economics class about this woman who decided to give up her real life for a year and only perform "unskilled labour," such as waitressing, etc., and mentioned that her worst customers were the Christians who came in to eat after mass, because they were rude, self centered, and never tipped.

No, we're all self obsessed. It's impossible for humanity to not be self obsessed. A seemingly selfless act is only done for the benefit of the doer, whether it be to make them feel good about themselves, make them seem morally superior, give way to an unspoken indebtment or apeal to an illusionary sense of honour, it's all done for self gratification.

WTF? That's not true at all.

By your logic, I drove a kid home today so I would feel good about myself, not because he needed a ride and has a lot of problems and I feel bad for him.

...or that everyone holds their religion higher than everyone esle and offers the same counter point back at each other.
And what does this tell you about the veracity of religion?

Yes, I know about the subconscious. It just seems improbable to me that I (or anyone) do nice things solely for the satisfaction of doing them.
I don't really see a problem with helping someone so you feel good. The net result is positive for both parties

*primarily self-satisfaction

That is what Nietzsche would claim, and he'd also claim it's destructive. I don't really think it's true for the most part though.
