for next time, in case I stay a few days - any recommendations? too lazy to look stuff up so i am asking locals - thanks

I can definitely recommend *against* the Coke Museum unless you're a big Coke fan or something. It was okay, but not worth the $9 or time it took to get there. I think my fellow Coke-museum-visiting cohorts would back me up on that. :)

The botanical gardens are supposed to be great if you're into that stuff. There's the High Museum, too. I'm kinda fond of the Atlanta History Center, but I like history. :) On that note, tehre's also the Margaret Mitchell house, but I've never gone.

I went to Margaret Mitchell's house last time. The guided tour was very informative, but did not give us enough time to look around. Was nice, though.

Also last time we went to Stone Mountain park - that was lots of fun. We rode the train, we went atop the stone, saw the 4-D show... ate... It's a ways out of town but very pretty and fun. And you get to see the biggest piece of granite. And you can fit 10 school buses on the back of the horse carved in the stone. Forgot who the guy atop the horse is.

This time I am thinking the walking tour of Piedmont park on Saturday morning and the botanical garden after that. SciTrek seems like it may be fun. This is where I've looked:

Little 5 points has some cool shops...
Piedmont Park is a cool place to chill out...
Buckhead is decent nightlife, kind of yuppy sportsbar style...
Definitely reccommend the history museum and the High Museum of Art...
There's a Dave and Busters up 75 and 85 (of course you may have one of those too)
Underground is fun for about an hour and they also have some cool nightlife there too..
There's a holocaust museum if you're into that kind of stuff...
Fernbank has a pretty kick-ass IMAX theater...
Of course you gotta eat at the varsity...
Hell, IKEA is pretty kick ass to walk around (as is the whole 17th street area)
Don't know what you're transportation situation is, but the drive offers 2 first run movies for $6...can't beat that!

I'm sure there's more. Definitely anti-coke museum though.

Shaye (Lady Space) is on crack! The Coke Museum ruled!!!

lol, it must be you that makes it rule then! :D It was tolerable with Metal, Urban, Linda, Denney and Kim... but just okay. Without them, it would have sucked.

Shaye

P.S. I'm not on crack... someone stole my crack pipe!

Maybe one of these years I'll do something other than see the show, party, and then sleep till it's time to get ready for the next day so I can check out some of that stuff. I'm sitting here thinking "when do they have time to do all of this??" My only assumption is that I probably sleep through it all hehe

If you're into skipping out on Conception/Angra, you can visit the
Masquerade for High on Fire/The Red Chord
or
the Roxbury for Napalm Death/Obituary...

Who would be willing to do such a non-sense act? LOL

Here's my itinerary, since I'm getting in Wed. morning:

Underground Atlanta
Scitrek
World of Coke
Six Flags
A few malls-Peachtree center, Perimeter, and Lenox Square

Restaurants I'm going to sample:

Vortex
Montana Grill

It's actually World of Coca-cola, makes it easier to look up.

It's good once, I'm doing it twice simply because I feel I must pay homage to the soda God once a year. And because I was too chicken last year to try all the weird flavors. I was all pysched to sample some different flavors, and when I got into the fountain room....

I got a Coca-Cola Classic. I know, I'm a wuss.

What I really wanted was New Coke, but there was no mention of it anywhere. I know they changed it to Coke II and then discontinued it.

Also would have been nice to see New Coke commercials in their little commercial exhibit. I sat through every single one.

Oh man, be careful!! Some of those are just terrible. :yuk: So be sure to take baby sips at first. Trust me. :p

Going to Little 5 points this year again. Need another visit to the Vortex.

There is also the Atlanta Hard Rock Cafe. MARTA will take you right to it.

Yeah, I passed by it 50 times last year and chose McDonald's instead.

I also was warned about World of Coke last year, that some of the flavors were awful. A couple of people were spitting stuff out.

The only one I know not to try under any circumstances is the Italian version.

If I remember correctly, Scitrek closed about a year ago. I guess you could try this place instead, http://www.fernbank.edu/ , if you're that hell-bent on learning something
