Anybody know anything about Magic:The Gathering

Oh, the memories. I used to play it when I was 11 years old, it was a fad in school. It was on the fourth edition era, and I remember building a "necrodeck". I still had that main playdeck until a year ago, when I found it on my closet and sold it on the internet for $100 bucks. It had a lot of great cards, but the selling price dropped a lot as many of them are now banned or restricted.

When you say "banned", I assume you mean by the revised rules of the game? I would think that would increase their collector's value (or do people actually buy the rare ones to play with them?)

Yep, when they think a card is "broken" they ban it. It´s actually a good thing for the game, like a "patch" to avoid abuse and cheap combos, but it sucks because sometimes you have a great card that you expect to be valuable in the future, and it ends up getting banned and worthing shit. That happaned to me when I sold the deck last year. It had 4 "Necropotence", a powerful and expensive card that is now banned (among others).

To be honest, I dont´even know how they manage to keep selling these things. With all the computer games and stuff.

If you find a local card shop, don't they sell pricing guides like beckets or anything for these? I'm sure there's gotta be a price guide online somewhere that lists the collectible cards. It's time consuming, but I think google searching the crap out of these is going to be worth it so you don't accidentally sell a valuable card for just $1.

I played when I was a young lad. I had a card that ended up being worth a good amount of money. Black lotus or something like that? Traded my whole set for my first tube amp actually.

Lost some money, but best trade of my life:kickass:

A black lotus is worth over a grand at this point if it's mint.

Yeah I'm a fucking nerd, I haven't bought cards since I was 22 though. I had a bunch of friends and relatives that were into it, so I got into it as well. :loco:

When you say "banned".

Means you can't show up to an official tournament and use them.

Anyways, to the OP: I would sort out all the cards that have a gold symbol on them and look them up only (rare cards), there are some uncommon (silver icon) cards that are worth money, but most of the ones that are gonna be of any value are the gold ones.

There are a handful of black icon cards that are worth money (only that I know of), but for the most part the black icon ones are worth nothing.:

Counterspell from alpha or beta (worth like 10-12 bucks I think)
Priest of Titania (I don't remember)
Old lightening bolts, nothing from the past 18 years or so.

Yeah I'm a stupid nerd. (facepalm)

I don't know shit about the series after the Onslaught set.

IIRC there was one that sold over here in Aus on eBay a while back for $10k... apparently it was the best condition "near mint" example of it they'd ever had. Never quite got the attraction to Alpha tbh (beyond "collection value" obviously).

$10k fuck that. haha

The card isn't even that fucking good imo. That said, if I had one I would probably keep it in a pretty beefy case.

Nah it definitely isn't. I mean, it allows for some pretty crazy stuff if you happen to have four of them in your deck so the odds of getting them real early are good, but honestly I think all the "Mox" jewels are better (fuck you, one land per turn rule  )

God I'm a dweeb :goggly:

I still have my cards here somewhere.. I'm still pretty proud of my Shivan Dragon (Black border).. We never got Alpha or Arabian Nights here in Finland, but everything else after these.

And I played DD and ADD as well at some point :p

I was playing/collecting from '99 to 2001 or so just after Invasion was released, stopped just after Mirrodin came out, didn't play for years and barely kept up with it and got hardcore back into it last year

Artifacts FTW [/nerd]

man, i used to play that shit all the time back in 94-95...surprised aanyone givs a fuck at all anymore about these

i used to have a sweet-ass black/white/blue deck...my serra angels, royal assassins, icy manipulators, dopplegangers, djinns and counterspelling used to fuck all kinds of kids up!

It is, in an aggressive type of deck it can be devastating. Of course the goal is to have as much as possible in the beginning.

I quit this game 1/2 years after the urza series. I found series come too fast and it brings too many new rules that always unbalance the game. I was pissed off when a few years after they create stupid rules (since they started having no more good ideas) which created cards as strong as before but for half the price...

I loved creating blue/dark decks.

The game is insanely fast now, especially during tournaments. Though I personally love where it's gone. I only play fluff games though, so we make rules to counteract the overly fast games (mainly more life), but it's still really fun to play, for me at least :D

I was trying to go through them all yesterday and literally got a fuckin migraine from trying to sort it all out lol so ill get back to it tomorrow. Thanks for all the info fellas. It's greatly appreciated.
