Anyone ballsy enough to not grab a DI when you record?

I always track DI's for safety and for editing but almost alway go for the tone we get while recording. I think it's also something that's sets the right vibe: checking out amps, dialing in tones, tweaking some more, cranking some more and getting siked about that. I can't imagine getting that vibe when just tracking DI's through an ampsim.

Always tracked with Di's even when I didn't have a re amp box. Then a project I did about 4-5 months ago when I still didn't have one I said feck it- no way I'll end up using sims on it and I didn't think I'd be getting a reamp box anytime soon.
Fell into a position where I had the money and easy availablity of a red eye, got it and went through loads of hassle with the project when it came to mix time and we'd used too much gain on some of the guitar tracks and had no DI's. If I'd taken Di's it would have been so much easier.

So now I'm gonna take em the whole time. Got a pretty nice array of amps going on at the moment too so I figure it'd be silly not to at least take them for safety.

Anyway if you have a DI box I can't understand why you don't want to record also the DI's.
For example during the guitar recordings you can find a tone that doesn't work properly in the final mix...
Think about DI's like an insurance (also if you get a good guitar sound immediatelly), like the negatives/raw for the photos

When I recorded my amp for the bands album, I just stuck a 57 on that fucker and recorded it. Came out sounding great, imho. The other guitarist was a different story!!
