Yeah, I know what gear they used. I was hoping to get some pics of the settings on the 5150, or how they miked up the cabs.

They got the wattage on the 5150 wrong there too, it's 120 watts, not 100.

ya except it could be very much a problem gettin that sound as its probably had a whole load of EQ added to it.

Yeah, Fredrik Nordstrom is an amazing producer, I know I'm not going to nail that tone just messing around at home, I was just curious. I'm a gear nerd. :D

Here's a real short clip I recorded the other day, excuse the shit playing...

That sound close at all to the album?

Sort of. The tone on the album is a lot drier and harsher. In all honesty I could not believe they pulled that sound out of a 5150. I'd either say those Distortion pedals have a lot to do with the sound or they did a lot of post-EQ.

I actually had a bit of success using Freefilter on some of the guitar sections on the album and applying the characteristics on the tone I had dialed in.

Good luck.

Remember, Opeth always had the gain down, and multitracked to all hell.

Yeah, I know they layered a lot and kept the gain down. I had the gain on 2 there on the lead channel normal gain input. I always use a boost though, I just like how it sounds. The tone on that album is one of my favorites. I'm going to record some of The Amen Corner later this week, see how that turns out.
