Yeah, im getting sick of my tiny shitty averatec laptop, and im looking into getting another one. I'm looking for something preferably less than a grand, with a good processing speed, good monitor size, that would overall be a decent computer for gaming. Anyone have any suggestions?

now... i've had laptops for... probably about 5 years now. I've had a Samsung, a Sony Vaio, and even an HP notebook. But now, i'm using an iBook G4... it cost $1100... but that's with upgrades that weren't completely necessary, but to me, I couldn't go without them. Now, I would suggest Mac to you, because once I got a Mac, I haven't had a single problem at all. Those notebooks I listed above the Mac, they all lasted about a year. And then shit went to hell. Now my Mac I've had for a year and a half and i STILL have 4 hours of battery life. The only problem you might run into with a Mac is your gaming needs. Not everything is made for Mac. But now that the new Macs are running on Intel processors, its gonna open up a lot more possibilities. Oh and by the way... 99.9% of viruses are made for Windows.

Anything else I can help ya with? hahaha

Ew... Mac... Ew..

When it comes to dell, I like Toshiba the best, closely followed by Dell and HP. Look into like a Dell Inspiron E1705. Dual Core CPU, Radeon graphics, 17 inch screen, 512mb ram, 60gb drive, dvd rom, cd burner. for like 999. Not bad.

I work in the IT field and have purchased hundreds of laptops for businesses as well as configuring a dozen or so for friends. Getting a laptop around a grand is perfectly doable. If you want a laptop that plays modern FPS and MMORPG games with the graphics turned on, you need to look at spending around $2000. You get a lot more bang for your buck out of a desktop, but that is the price of portability.

My own method is to keep a nice gaming machine at home, and as it outgrows older games I move them to my laptop, which is powerful enough to run older games and sometimes gives me a chance to play through them again 2 years later, which reduces how many new games I spend money on.

yeah, Desktops are the way to go, but im guessing he's moving into a dorm soon.

i gotta Dell Latitude D600, it has a 1.7GHz Intel Centrino processor, 1GB of RAM, and a built in Radeon (some POS video card) it plays counter-strike source sluggishly.. but it can do it.. you can play older game and less intensive games on it... the Inspiron E1705 is definately a step up in speed with the dual core.. you'll need to up the ram if you really want to get your game on. But for a grand.. i think it's pretty rocking.

why don't you like Mac...?... because their OS actually works and doesn't have a shitload of wormholes?... but seriously, what's your reasoning? just curious. because i know a lot of people that just say "ew mac" but don't know shit about them. knowing how good you are with tech shit, curious to hear your opinion.

I hate the macintosh design and interface. If if you use windows CORRECTLY, you're not going to get a virus, like al the mac users seem to think just turning it onn will do. Only the fucktards get that lucky. And I've been running XP for years and haven't had any problems on this pc in the last 2. Blue screens, nothing.

yeah dude, ive had no problems with windows either, my beef with mac is that it's has its own universe, Microsoft rules the computing world, and Mac is just the "computer rebels"

Mac, to me (no offense Bill), is designed to be this super easy, anyone can use it, and it wont fuck up system. The plus side to Macs are that there is one company making EVERYTHING! All the hardware is mac, the software is Mac, the software is designed to run ONLY on their hardware... which is great... but now you have all these mac "eleitists" who run around saying OMG MAC NEVER CRASHES ITS SO MUCH BETTER THAN WINDOWS (not saying you are hahaha) and it's just a gay statement to make because Windows is designed to run on ANY COMBINATION of hundreds of different parts made by hundreds of different manufacturers.

To me, Windows is Industry standard... and for a reason too. IF you know what your doing, Windows will never fail you. Plus I think the OS layout and the way it all works is beyond gay IMO, I perfer Windows start bars and menus over the MAc... whatever the fuck they call that navication bullshit.

that's an awesome feature though. don't have to wait for programs to fucking load to open everytime you close.

but anyway... there are a lot of elitist mac users. but at the same time... you say Windows is industry standard... that's starting to change. Everything is starting to go mac... well... not everything. But lots of stuff is. In the recording industry, i'd say that almost all of the techs and shit use Mac. Pro Tools... yes, does come for Windows and such... but its made for Mac, and runs a lot better. But, going to a science school... i know that in the pharmaceutical industry, Macs are the background for it. Hell, my one friend is going to school for video game design. He says that all he can use for his classes are Macs. When is making something simple and easy to use a bad thing. You telling me Windows isn't easy to use? its a lot easier. And a lot of people know how to use Windows and would be confused by a Mac, although Mac is a lot easier than anyone thinks it is. And just to say in terms of web browsing... Mac's Safari is by far the best browser... over netscape, IE, firefox... pretty much anything. I like Windows, still use it. Will use it probably forever. But i'm not going to buy another Windows machine. Granted, everyone has different experiences with things. But a LOT of people have problems with Windows. I just think its a better system overall, but to each his own. And thanks for being specific with things and not just saying "Mac is gay"

If you want to play games, a laptop for under a grand is not going to cut it.

yeah, plus i've had a gaming laptop before and its alright but really, for some of the newer games, playing them on a desktop is just a lot more fun and better, especially with the bigger monitor to me. i couldn't imagine playing elder scrolls IV oblivion or half life 2 on a laptop. if you really can only get a laptop though then you're probably going to be spending a lot.
