I assume we could just do an ilok transfer, and I dunno, I miss all the Line 6 FX I had at my disposal with my old PodXT, and I got some lead tones I was pretty happy with from it as well. Let me know!

Hmm, found this for $38 on ebay...then I realized the item location was Hong Kong :Smug:

Marcus, should we be worried that you're selling your Mesa and are now looking to buy Line6?

Personally, I'd recommend that you buy POD Farm Platinum as this gives you all of their models unlike the regular $99 version that you get with the X3 etc. Of course, it depends as to what level you'll be using it ie. for yourself ($99 version) or producing other bands where the maximum amount of tonal options may be required ($299 version)?

Marcus: That Hong Kong dealer is legit, I've had three friends buy from that same dude, PODfarm for iLok. I was also going to purchase from him but I've got an XT Pro coming this week so I can just buy the $49 version from Line6 (license) since the Pro will be my dongle.

I'm assuming you tried the 15-day demo for iLok users at least? I was satisfied with the regular version, I'll only need it for scratch tracks but I would like to be able to tweak after the fact because clients are gay.

I haven't, no, but there's absolutely no way I'm spending more than $100 for anything Line 6, especially software :goggly: (and Niall, this is strictly for my own use). Cool to hear the Hong Kong guy isn't dealing in warez though, will have to snag that, thanks!

NP, but seriously do yourself a favor and check out the demo first, it's free and 15-days worth! Fully functional as well.

Exactly what I did, and within about ten minutes I decided to buy it. It sounds decent, and is great for tracking DIs without having to track extra throw-away amp tracks. Editing the DI and immediately being able to hear it "amped" is a really, really great benefit. Even if you've got something against Line 6, the plug-in was basically a no-brainer for me as soon as I tried it out and realized how practical it was!

Oh yeah, I know, I've been doing that for over a year now - just with free ampsims and impulses :D And I had a PodXT for like 3 years, so I'm really familiar with the sounds and what you can and can't do with 'em, but hey, $100 for the FX alone is worth it IMO!

So what gives this an edge over something like Guitar Rig 3 or Amplitube 2/metal/x-gear?

Price! :D

Kjaerhus Classic series effects? Free, and its got Flanger/Phaser/Chorus/Delay/Reverb...

Hmm, true, but I've also gotten some lead sounds I'm happy with out the Line 6 software, and more importantly I just know it really well so I like the familiarity. Also, I wanna try it on bass! (when I get one :erk: )

Nah, I haven't really heard much good from them either, but I also know I'd much rather use SoloC/7170/8505 + Boogex over anything Line 6 for rhythm guitars! :D

I feel the same way about the Guitar Rig stuff, the cabinets are terrible. Same with Waves GTR Solo.

Amplitube Fender rocks my socks at the moment. I haven't tried it for metal yet though.

You guys keep saying the POD sounds decent. Why fuck around with 'decent' tones when you could just be getting GOOD or GREAT tones right away. :p

Well it's nice to try to get outstanding tones with gear/software that sound decent, there's at least one that's done it : Joey Sturgis. :D

Because I only think it sounds decent for rhythms, for cleans and solos I'm quite happy with it (as well as the aforementioned FX, spec. delay ;))

That's interesting to hear Egan, since I remember at one point you sang the praises of having a dedicated hardware modeler rather than relying on software ampsims (how does "modeler" only have one "l", btw? And furthermore, how does spell check even recognize "modeler"? :goggly: ) And it's pretty funny, on ebay I regularly see those Toneport GX's (I guess they're called Pod Studio now or some nonsense) that apparently include Pod Farm going for less than the software itself! (usually around $80)
