Tonight we're going to see the "unplugged" concert of Jon Oliva's Pain. Guess it will be alot of fun, Jon telling the story of his live...Well, as a bonus Hawk and me get an interview with Jon next Saturday. If you guys got anything you wanna ask or just know some good questions let us know !!!!

Well, naturally you have to interrogate him about the next Savatage album, but here's some other stuff:

- Can he confirm the Savatage 25th anniversary show/tour I've heard some rumors about? A possible dvd release?
- Have they found the missing tracks of Streets yet?
- Is he planning to quit his musical career at some point or will he go on as long as he possibly can?
- Jon Oliva's Pain will release a total of 3 albums, is this correct?
- Any Jon Oliva guest appearances on "rock operas" etc coming up?

I keep reading about all the sweet things you guys here on the forum get to do. Sixx interveiwing Doro, you interviewing Olivia, then theres the "musicians you have met"" thread. I am so jealous!! You guys have all the fun!

Very cool though! :kickass:

We just returned from the Jon Oliva accoustic set. Was great fun again. Jon is a real entertainer. We got to hear alot of original demo versions of songs that changed when they were recorded , like Jezus (saves) was originally completely different. This accoustic set also gives a good idea how the songs are written originally..Jon's voice was great again. Public sang along almost every single word of the songs. Sometimes the pace did go down a little, like the Savatage slows aren't THAT great to keep full interest going, some Beatles covers were more interesting. Also 2 new songs; one Jon wrote for the 2006 Batman returns, Batman go, .... "or whatever the fuck he does this year" :) and a new song from JO Pain which sounded very promising for the new record (due to appear in september) Anyway, it was a special concert, only few of these accoustic sets will be played worldwide. I'm not an "unplugged" fan, but this was worth seeing. If I had the choice though, an "electric" concert is more interesting, it was hard to miss songs like "Sirens" and "Hall of the Mountain King", I did miss the power of the amplifiers abit, I'm a hard rocker you know ;-)

setlist;
NYC
Stay
Jesus
Crowds
Money
All that I bleed / Soul
Little to far
Fly Away
Only you (Blue)
Stare into the sun
If I go Away
Walk Alone
Sleep/Dream/Elanor
Summer Rain
The Answer
A Day in life
Strange Reality
Monkey
Believe

Ze pics....heya, where are the questions, you guys gotta have some questions for someone who's on our UMOS banner ???

I have met Jon a few times, so ther isn't much I could ask him. You can ask him if he knows the new Vanden Plas release though. I am serious. I get a little funny about asking artists about another artist, but I think Jon might dig this new VP release.

I just arrived home after a day with the Jon Oliva interview and a listening session of the new Jon Oliva's Pain CD. Hawk and me had a great and long interview with Jon, he's friendly as hell. At a local hard rock bar we had an exclusive listen at the new JOP album...Well; I had expected it to be good but this surpassed all expectations. The album is alot different from "Tage Mahal", much, much more Savatage style, and I mean the REAL GOOD Savatage stuff !! There are some killer tracks on it, Jon's voice is completely back and Matt's solo's are improved beyond believe... It was pretty cool ; Jon was just sitting there at the bar explaining what the songs were about. He's very proud of this record and has every right to be ! Go save some dollers and buy this record when it's released in september !!!

There is a special show/tour planned for next summer, no details known for now. Savatage is still negociating for festivals, gigs etc..for this tour.

- Have they found the missing tracks of Streets yet?

Nope, but a box full of '77 to '91 rehearsals from Chris and Savatage were discovered, some riffs are used for the new JOP album..

- Is he planning to quit his musical career at some point or will he go on as long as he possibly can?

There's no stopping the Mountain King...

- Jon Oliva's Pain will release a total of 3 albums, is this correct?

No, Pain has become a very tight band and there is no record limit set !

- Any Jon Oliva guest appearances on "rock operas" etc coming up?

(not asked) But we were talking about TSO, and due the big succes of that in the US it certainly will be continued. "It's the thing that finally gives the Savatage guys a decent income !!"

no, Jon listens very little to Metal, the most he hears of it is when they play at festivals, and the opening bands of JOP. After playing tours for weeks when he comes home he just wants to rest and everything to be quiet...so he almost never listens to metal than.... Bryant

Cooooool! Great pics. I'm sure you'll hold those as pretty special for quite some time. Sounds like you and Hawk had a good time. Good to hear the new disc is so promising. I'll look forward to it. :headbang: :kickass:

Cool pics!! Looking forward to the new disc for sure. Can't wait! Glad to see something is being planned for Savatage too. I'm guessing that is going to be it though. Jon seems to be having a lot of fun with his new band. Hopefully we'll get one more album out of the mighty 'Tage!

Great pix Gert !! I still need to dye your beard for you. You can always dye it green like Diamond darrel had it at one time. ^___^

It is great to see Jon appear to be in good spirits as well. He has had it rough. He lost his brother, other friends close to him and his voice as well. Obviously he put on a few pounds as well, but he is not only a true musical maestro, but one hell of a great guy as well.

I can honestly say that both you and he were blessed to meet each other. Please don't take "blessed" the wrong way. It is meant as a spiritual term, not a religious one. There is a difference.

I am sooo jealous of you guys. I think I might just die. Not only getting to hang out and talk with the Mountain King, but also a preview of the new album. That new album is the only thing keeping me from dying of jealousy. I don't want to kick the bucket until I've heard that one!

If we ever meet I'll have to watch my back I guess no paint will end up on me chin :loco:

I don't know about Jon Oliva, but I feel blessed all the way to have spend some time with him. He's a real nice guy, and loves his metal . I got this little movie I'll post later ..bad quality, but it shows Jon headbanging on my right and Hawk on my left..just need to find a way to cut a little piece out of that Mpeg file..

Two new tracks at JOP's MySpace site. Doesn't really sound that different from Tage Mahal in style like carnut said IMO. I love the guitarwork on the first song, and overall this is definitely good stuff. The man can do no wrong!:zombie: :worship:

Cool pics Gert!

However I feel a little bad about Jon, he's getting fatter and fatter and still drinks a lot from what I've heard, I hope he can stay healthy for the years to come... :(
May his love for music keep The Mountain King on track.
