do you think the API A2D in the best pre + converter in that price range ($1700 - $2000)? Have you used that yet?

Well I think you can´t go wrong with API, right? I´m going to try one out... problably better than the T.C. Gold Channel, wich is the best pre+converter I have worked til today...

Personally, I'm not that fond of API EQ. The mic pres are pretty punchy but there are others I prefer to API.

I've only used the API 3124+. Has a very crunchy sound to it. It's good to run rock vocals through, as well as distorted guitars... gives the signal a bit of a grittier edge. Worked well on a vocalist who's voice was too weak for the band.

Sorry but the hyped API highs and bass is terrible on guitar I think (not always, but didnt worked for me most of the time).
