Actually the reason why they were in a way classed as Black Metal with Orchid and Morningrise was because of the vocals and the lyrical content.

You really cant have a pure genre anymore everyone overlaps its loaded with grey area. Same with political ideologies.

Probably my favourite Opeth song. For that exact reason. "Deliverance" is the closest they've come to death metal and for that reason it's my favourite Opeth album and always will be. None of this keyboard carry on, just great riffing and fantastic growls.

Yea but, those are pure black metal bands, and those are pure death metal bands. Well, except for Death. Take early Melo death and more accessible black metal and add in the prog elements, plus some other stuff (mellotrone for example) and really you have the starting blocks of Opeth.
