You definitely misunderstood what I meant by raw, not in the same sense as immortal or nattens madrigals or the kvlt trends of black metal. I meant just in the way their last 3 albums sounded like. They aren't bad, the drums are not hugely compressed and don't sound thin at all, they are very dynamic and alive. Lots of room sound. On the sample, they sound TOO triggered for my taste. It actually takes a bit of their "sound" away. Undressed Momento is one of my all productions favorite production, along with Deliverance of Opeth. I agree with the rest about you, but I had to chime in to clarify the issue.

EDIT: And btw, I know how triggered Deliverance was and that doesn't mean it sounds triggered. At least I can't tell it. In the end it all sums up to Tastes.

Yeah I like how Undressed Momento sounds, but I sure don't like Deliverance! It sounds very thin and over-compressed and clinical to me,while ghost reveries sounds much 'wetter' and more alive, but whatev. I focus on guitar sound mainly when I listen to stuff cause I'm a guitarist/bassist. And my opinion of deliverance's production isn't helped by the fact that it's my least favorite album of theirs musically (besides damnation) :)

exactly.... GR sounds a lot better then Deliverance. Lamentations docu shows very little of the problems they had in the first studio. Steven Wilson was there only for a few days.

I guess it's a tradeoff.... SL and MAYH sound much more natural, and GR lacks this... but it's a lot clearer, and I'm so glad I can finally hear Mendez!
