Are the Darkthrone re-releases really that diabolical?

People say they did, especially "Blaze". Haven't heard them myself. However, I think they're major homo so I still don't have "Under a Funeral Moon" -- not buying it until I find a non-digipak version for a sane amount of money.

I like them. They've added a certain amount of depth that was not to be found on the old recordings, but on the expense of some of the atmosphere. All in all, I prefer the old ones, seeing as Darkthrone is all about atmosphere, but after having listened to them for ten years, these new ones were cool. :)

I heard that there was two series of reissues: One that I think was the slipcases that utterly suck, and then the digipaks that are ok.

However I've only heard the digipaks so I'm 100% talking with second hand knowledge so I can neither confirm or deny this claim.

It's entirely the other way around, nig-nog. The slipcases weren't touched soundwise, they only have a slipcase (duh), a different copyright date, and "NORSK ARISK BLACK METAL" removed from the back of Transilvanian Hunger. The Digipaks have the fucked up sound.

I'd quite like a collection of their old demo material, some of it is very good (such as the "Archipelago" demo).

I have all their demos with the exception of "A New Dimension", but from what I understand, they're quite hard to come by these days. But if anyone has "A New Dimension"and wants to sell it, please let me know.

Oh quiet you

If you were an old fucker like me, you'd have all that as well! If it's any consolation, you'll probably be dancing on my grave while headbanging to all the new shit I'll never hear. If you behave, I might leave it all to you after my passing... The way todays society is heading, my own children will probably be all "down in da hood" and blingbling and crappyass shit like that...

And besides, those Burzum shows were hardly anything to brag about. He played the same set every time. My two least favorite songs: "War" and "Lost Wisdom".

There's a shitty bootleg CD floating around which claims to have a live "Snu Mikrokosmos Tegn". I have my doubts about its autenticity, but do you think it is possible that it could be real?

I highly doubt it. I'm no expert on the field, but that song was written in '92, if I'm not mistaken, and that's after he and Euronymous started bickering at eachother. I'm just speculating here, of course. But if such a bootleg does indeed exist, it's probably a rehearsal.

I really dislike the remasters. The quality was "increased" slightly, but I really think they were great as they were. The only good thing about the peaceville remasters is the video clips that come with them (the first four albums).

Yeah, I'm not sure what to do. I really want "Transilvanian Hunger" and the digipak is a convenient $9.

Listening to some ol' 'Throne right now. Gotta say, I'm enjoying "A Blaze in the Northern Sky" the most.

I think the version of Transilvanian Hunger that Red Stream has is the jewel case, but its $15. They had it earlier on for cheaper, so we'll see what happens.

I'll probably end up buying quite a few of the remasters unless it is by some miracle cheap and easy to come across the originals, they can't be that different/bad.

It's not really a live performance, it's from a fake live bootleg Beneath The Ruins Of Christianity. As far as I know, Burzum never performed live, so I'm a bit confused about the things said in this thread.

Yep, but I trust Crimson Velvet, who actually WERE AROUND in Norway in 1990 to buy the demos and see the Mayhem/Burzum split shows, more than Varg, who is known for manipulating the past to suit him.
