Are the Darkthrone re-releases really that diabolical?

I have the original of Transylvanian Hunger, but I am getting the digi of Blaze any day now. It was way cheaper. Will I think it sucks, even though I've never heard the original?

Yep, but I trust Crimson Velvet, who actually WERE AROUND in Norway in 1990 to buy the demos and see the Mayhem/Burzum split shows, more than Varg, who is known for manipulating the past to suit him.

But why on earth there aren't any pictures from those gigs? There's plenty of old Mayhem live-pics etc, but nothing from Burzum. I guess Metallion would be the right person to ask about this. If I remember right, Old Funeral did gigs, but Burzum didn't.

Eh, I don't think Crimson Velvet is actually making this stuff up. "Why aren't there any pics from the gigs," you ask - it's not allowed to bring cameras with you at several gig venues in Oslo, and this was even stricter back in the day (considering digital cameras weren't available in shops back then, and cameras were often huge and hard to hide under your coat/jacket).

Every Burzum show I saw (2 or 3), was a short warm-up to Mayhem's show. As I said earlier, I believe the songs were "War" and "Lost Wisdom". I wasn't even a fan at the time, (but seeing as he hadn't released anything, go figure) so that's open for discussion, at least as far as "War" is concerned. Varg was only sixteen or seventeen at the time, so as far as I remember, his name was never on the bill. But the shows themselves, featured members of Mayhem, so pictures do indeed exist, I'm fairly certain of it. All the shows were prior to Dead's suicide, (late '90, early '91, I think. They were touring Europe, and I caught them twice in Norway, and once in Sweden. I would also guess that he were traveling with Old Funeral at the time.) and therefore, before Varg joined the band, but I'm absolutely certain that it was not Dead doing the vocals. If it was, he certainly had an uncanny ability to change vocal-styles. :p

You gotta be kidding me! I just bought the Blaze digi yesterday and now everyone's saying it's fucked up? I just listened to it and thought it sounded great. Is there really a difference?

The sound is clearer, and the different instruments are more audible. But as I said earlier, it's all on the cost of some of the atmosphere, which is why I would recommend the old ones.
