Are you proud to be a SLAYER fan?

He he awesome.
The reaction of the guy behind the couple when the interviewer says 'speed freaks'
There's a few more on Youtube, real fans speaking why they love Slayer, funny...

Videos like this make saying to people not into metal that you personally are into metal, with a straight face......

Here's another example why I don't tell TOO many people not into metal that I am:

I don't let any stereotypes or preconceived notion get in the way of my enjoyment of metal. Obviously, I won't rush into a business meeting singing lyrics, throwing the horns, or dressed unprofessionally. But if I'm asked what music I like, I take pride in acknowledging that I love metal.

In fact, the insurance agency I work for is quoting a policy related to an incredibly famous metal musican.

Hrmmm...well..the BEST Insurance Company claims that YOU ARE IN GOOD HANDS, though this is not part of any metal lyric I know.

At work, if I ever mention metal, I get the, "Oh you like stuff like Godsmack, Pantera, and Linkin Park"??? I mean, it's to be expected of course, as the majority of bands most of us like are underground. Usually, I leave it at, "Well, more like Iron Maiden, Motorhead, Black Sabbath, etc"

There was one time a few years back when I was spinning IMMORTAL's - Sons of Northern Darkness disc here at work. Some guy came by and asked what I was listening to. I displayed the CD cover and said, "Christian music" Needless to say, he did not seem amused, and in all honesty, I don't believe he has been near my cube since!

The only good thing about "that" company is that President Palmer does their tv commercials, and the NASCAR ones with Kasey Kahne are absolutely hilarious. :heh: I much prefer working for a commercial P&C broker than on the carrier side.

I'm always listening to metal at work, but at a modest volume to not annoy others. Everyone at work knows I'm the resident metalhead in the office, and I'm not subject to any backlash for it. Some of the other older people in the office are familiar with it, since they grew up in the 80's and were metal fans then.

Yeah, I get some of the, "I saw Metallica 10 years ago", or stuff like, "I love Maiden, 666 the Number of the Beast!!!"

There are a couple guys into more commercial metal here.

Only one guy here who is familiar with more of the underground scene. He and his brother actually know former ND Bassist Mike LeGross (SP????)

Watching those videos of 'metal fans' make me laugh at the highest point. Most of them still ignore what is metal music and where it comes from. Those kids have a metal attitude and wearing t-shirt and they look 'cool' with it. They have nothing in their mind or in their heart. It's the same for hip-hop fans (when it's become popular) they didnt know what they were listening to. Metal is not a question of attitude, it's just an introspection from what we feel inside. Only a few people recognize themselves in this metal culture. Since I cut my hair, people around dont categorize me as a 'metal fan' coz I dont have long hair and dont always wear metal shirts, but since im 12, Im a metal fan and that will never die.

This thread reach me on one point : you dont need to look metal to be one. Every friends I have are metal to the bone and was there when metal begun, but they look straight, most of them work for the government now.

The warfield is an awesome venue. Last time Slayer played here, they played a HUGE arena, it'd be really cool to see them at the warfield. I'm not a big Slayer fan tbh.

Haha, when people find out I'm a huge metalhead, they get this look on their face that says "uhhhh, really?" It cracks me the fuck up. I enjoy playing with people's heads. I'm about as un-metal looking as you can get :goggly:

As for Slayer.....not my cup o' tea.

I always have and will always love Slayer.
My first exposure to them was when the original Ultimate Revenge tape came out.
I was hooked from Die by The Sword.
I think everything they released through Seasons was brilliant.

I lost interest with Divine Intervention and the few which followed.

I started seeing them live again for the first time in a long time a few years ago.

DAMN! Do they still kill live!

That holds the same for me too, precisely. I saw a brief clip of them doing "Die By The Sword" from Ultimate Revenge on an episode of "Heavy Metal Mania" on MTV in 1985 and I was hooked. I had heard the "Show No Mercy" album already but it didn't really grab me until I saw that live clip. I prefer the tunes from those first couple of records in the live format over their studio counterparts, anyhow. My two favorite Slayer records are "Reign In Blood" and "Live Undead" (yes I know it's not really "live" but it's still got more of a live vibe than the original studio tracks).

I don't consider myself a massive Slayer fan, but I still get quite a bit of enjoyment from hearing those early records. Everything from "South Of Heaven" and on was kinda spotty for me. By the time they were doing that stuff my interests had gravitated more towards stuff like Kreator and Voivod and so forth. Even so, I have a tremendous amount of respect for Slayer, and noone has topped "Reign In Blood", that will always be in my top 10 metal albums of all time, even after 589723452 listens I'm still not sick of it!
