Are you proud to be a SLAYER fan?

My favorite Slayer fan story, well more of my personal story was when Kataklysm was playing the Bottom Lounge in Chicago. Jason and I were on the way to the show and got to talking about why we dont really wear metal shirts anymore. We got to talking about how people seem to look down on you and stuff. We also were talking about the typical metal stereotype of knuckleheads who just think metal is all about moshing and stuff. We get to the show and are in line and this kid, had to be in highschool or just out was there with his freinds. he had a homemade Slayer shirt. Out of no where he goes to his freinds. "When I die, I want a Slayer song played at my funeral". Then went on this discussion about Slayer and pits and stuff. It was really funny because he just summed up every aspect of out conversation we just had a half hour earlier.

I think there are lots of people who fall into that whole starstruck thing. You see it at shows all the time. Lots of younger kids are saying some real dumb stuff. At the Therion show some kid kept telling me that his freind was able to go back stage and meet the band. He kept talking like it was this huge honor and stuff. I didnt have the heart to tell him that it isnt that big of deal. At the Pearl Room it is pretty easy to meet band members and such.

At that show at the Metro, cant think of the show title...but ND played, Leaves Eyes, Atrocity and Macabre played, that all day fiasco. While trying to kill 4 hours, I was looking at band merchandise. The bass player from Leaves Eyes was in the small room. This one couple...they were nice but the guy was really that major fanboy off any metal act and who was not the brightest bulb in the bunch. He kept asking this guy if he hangs out with bands like Dragonland, and other power metal acts. He finally said that he doesnt even listen to metal. This kid was heartbroken. I think he thought that all bands all hang out and have this secret phone line that they all keep up with each other on. It was funny.

I think though most bands like thier fans but get tired of the same ole questions.....when is your new disc coming out? when are you guys playing again? (even right after they just played, which still cracks me up). At that same moment during the Leaves Eyes bass player thing. He told that kid that he listens to older music, mostly rock and Elvis. he loves photography more and somehow he bought up marine biology. We got into discussion that since I have a wealth of knowledge on that stuff. I could tell that he was relevied to be actually having a normal talk about something other than music.

That's a great story about Chris from Atrocity. It's true that he's not the biggest metal fan, we've had some good conversations about his Elvis infatuation lol. And we've talked about his work and all that, dealing with crawfish and all this stuff, he travels to the U.S. for business from time to time. I haven't talked to him in a while now, but when I did see him, we didn't really talk about metal or our bands. I certainly don't mind talking about ND or about metal music with fans or other band members, but I'm probably gonna be more intrigued if someone can hold a good conversation with me about other interests. Like our good friend Thomas from Belgium, who collects Mego superhero figures, Paul and I always look forward to having a nice nerdy toy geek convo with him whenever we go to Europe haha It's nice for a change :)

A great deal many of metal musicians of all kinds tend to listen to alot of other kinds of music than metal. I don't sit around and listen to much metal really, which doesn't mean I don't still love it. I think when you're been writing and performing it for so long, it's just more enjoyable to listen to something else outside of what style you're working in, if that makes any sense?

I also don't think it's a terrible thing about the younger fans who get really (perhaps overly) excited about things like meeting the band and whatever. Sometimes seeing those eager kids is a nice break from dealing with all of the jaded, arms folded, smirking metal guys who can't be bothered to applaud or show much enthusiasm anymore. I think a healthy midpoint between those two extremes is best, really.

have you played?

- Fallout 3
- Dead Space
- Left 4 Dead

I am interested in them...just curious.

I haven't played any of these games, but have friends who have. Fallout 3 is supposed to be beyond amazing. Dead Space looks good, but I heard the controls suck real bad. Left 4 Dead I heard is pretty awful.

I haven't touched my XBOX for probably two weeks, I've been busy with stuff, and haven't been in a gaming mood lately. I'm really waiting for Sacred 2 in February. I most likely won't buy any other game except for that one for a while.

you can D/L Dead Space and Left 4 Dead demos on XBOX live. I wasn't impressed with either one.

Paul I am disgusted! Dead Space is one of the best games ever released on the 360! Scares the shit out of me everytime I play it, I really avoid playing it when I'm home alone because it's so god damn nerve racking.

Left 4 Dead I actually bought and really wish I didn't. I expected much more from the makers of Half Life and this is just a boring ass shooting gallery built on a 4 year old engine. Lame.

I have Fallout 3 on my PC and I really can't get into it. I love RPG's but this game is so damn boring to me. The only thing it's got going for it is the slow motion gore kills.

Thats the big delema for me.....I loved Fallout 2. I spent a whole summer in the basement when it first came out. Now I can spend the whole winter in my apartment playing it. I have heard great things and horrible things about it.

I am really interested in Left 4 Dead. I am a zombie fanatic and there really hasnt been a true zombie game out. Resident Evil was a good start but when other creatures got added....it stopped being a true zombie game for me.

I have also heard some amazing things and bad things about Dead Space.

I thought the metal forums were full of verbal battles....damn. I went to some game forums to do a little research....damn. They are even more nastier than some fights on Ultimate Metal.

I may have to go with Wills recommendation on Left4 Dead. I love zombies.

I think it looks fantastic, but I really didn't like the controls. Perhaps it's something that takes some getting used to, but running the demo left me unimpressed with control.

Left 4 Dead was fun, but again, the controls, as mentioned, is a 4 year old engine. Pretty stale. It's better then the zombie game in the mall (can't remember the name) but I was hoping for more like Rainbow 6 style control.

If someone would combine the control of Rainbox 6 and Gears of War, to me, it would be the perfect game. I'd shoot zombies, aliens, terrorists, monsters... hell, I'd soot ANYTHING in a game that plays like Rainbow.

I think all you gamerz here just lost the right to ever rip on Vito or myself again for our love of Rhapsody!!!!

I think you are just jealous because you are still stuck with that top of the line Tandy computer and still stuggling at Gorf.

A sidenote....I was a big gamer, love stuff like Civilization and Age of Empires. Havent had time as of late to play anything new in years. I actually have like 4 games I got as gifts from last Christmas just sitting here on my desk. I did enjoy the little bits of Universe At War though.
