"The first written record of whisky comes from 1405 in Ireland,[2] where it was distilled by monks.[1] It is also mentioned in Scotland in 1496.[3] However it is thought that whisky had already been around for at least several hundred years prior. When or where whisky was first distilled is unknown and the local, undocumented beverage production during the period makes identification of the drink's origin difficult. Additionally, it is possible that different groups discovered processes of distillation completely independently of one another.

Some scholars believe distilled spirits were first produced between the 8th century and 9th century in the Middle East with the art of distillation being brought to Ireland and Britain by Christian monks.[citation needed]"

Whisky/whiskey is actually a Chinese invention...

But as i said, We do it better :loco:

I live right across the finest whiskey bar you can find in the vicinity, but I'm everything but a purist. Scottish, Irish, Americano... it didn't matter. We usually got hammered with Tullamore, just because it was the cheapest you could get there. Or Glenfiddich...

Personally, I think Jameson's and any kind of Scotch (my Dad is a Scotch fanatic, so I've tried A LOT of good varieties) taste absolutely wretched - the only whisk(e)y I can tolerate is Jack Daniel's, and even then it's too sickeningly sweet for me - I'll stick with my Svedka Vodka!

Totally opposite here. I used to drink JD as a teen 'cause that's what all the cool kids drink, but after trying things out I realised it's utter crap :) Jameson is by far my absolute favourite when it comes to the cheap stuff.

I've even got my Jameson's flask right next to my computer (I work from home) and I hit it the moment the clock strikes 5 :D Had my first 100+ proof the other week, it was the Wild Turkey Rare Breed. Hm hm hm hmmm. Anyone here tried Pochine? Better yet where I can get some here in the States?

P.S. I feel no remorse for hi-jacking this thread. But then again I could bring alcohol into any conversation :P
