Arsis - A Celebration of Guilt

I like Crowpath, never heard of this sadis band, just what the hell do they play, how sloppy are they, and does the band have any redeeming qualities?

there is a link on the Willowtip site to a sample ... good luck

i think it will be my mission for the next few days to warn people of this band :)

i don't think some of you know what "hardcore yelling" is at all. man, the dual rune vocal performance i think is one of the best vocal performances ever. the crowpath vocals especially are so violent and brutal. i wasn't the biggest fan of capharnaum (same dude as trivium's) vocals are first either but i love them now, but a death metal vocalist wouldn't fit with their sound either. their will be a new vocalist on the next capharnaum album though since all the RR stuff with trivium. codc and sadis euphoria have 2 of the sickest guttural vocalists ever. the arsis vocals remind me of enslaved.

you have to realize, virually no band on this label is a cookie cutter band like on other labels....pretty much every band has their own distinct style and i think most of the bands are quite original or bring something new to the style they play, and this usually means not the normal vocal style either to some extent at least.

thank you for the kind words, it is much appreciated.

Neuraxis 2xcd discography of all material thus far with bonus stuff came in today.

still to come this year:
Necrophagist - onset Reissue with bonus, new drums, mixing/mastering, artwork,
crotchduster - big fat box of shit (an instant classic from the mind of jason/capharnaum)
harakiri - brand new full length (twilight still is one of the best DM albums in years, this will be even better)
+ some more surprises and new signings

I like Sadis Euphoria. Not my favorite band by any means, but the production on that CD kicks me square between the testicles, without the shield in the way to soften the blow.

I have a review up by the way. :Spin:

I still haven't heard any of the latest Willowtip stuff (Arsis, Crowpath, Capharnaum), but I very much enjoyed Watchmaker and Rune from last year. I still need to get this Arsis, but funds are rather low.

And I agree with tipton on one point, a lot of you have no idea what hardcore yelling is.

Oh boy, i basically grew up in the middle of the real hardcore scene in Lower East Side of NYC in the 80's ... Agnostic Front, Crumbsuckers, Cro-mags, etc, etc, ... Remember going to Sunday Matinee shows at CBGB's and where they used to love to mix up thrash bands and Hardcore bands on the bill ... just to create a little excitement so to speak. Those days people didn't go to shows and stand there with their arms folded, if you know what I mean ... I know what hardcore is and where it came from. That was the real shit ... those bands lived what they sang about. The scene was rough back in those days. ... Anyway, like I said before I am not a particular fan of hardcore yelling mixed with death metal style music ...

I LOVE the original hardcore scene but this new blend leaves me cold.

I don't like the melodic death hardcore crap like Darkest Hour and that ilk. That stuff blows.

Most of my fave straight up hardcore bands come from the mid to late 90's. The early 90's stuff like Agnostic Front, Cro-Mags, Sick of It All never impressed me. But I do like the early 90's stuff like Biohazard and Life of Agony.

For the record, The Haunted's debut does not have hardcore yelling.

Bah, that album rules. Certainly better than anything Aro was on. I'm glad Dolving has rejoined the band.

And it's not like he's screaming all the time. He sings on In Vein, talks on the closer, and has a much more varied delivery than other derivative thrash singers.

It's one of the few thrash albums I enjoy from beginning to end. If only most thrash bands could deliver such angry and refreshing albums, I might actually be a fan of the genre. But as it stands, they can't or won't.

It's a great album, but the vocals drive me up the wall so I rarely listen to it. I've never heard the other Haunting albums.

I don't particularly care for the average thrash vocalist either, but I don't recall any that have actually bothered me.

I'll be seeing The Haunted with Dolving on friday \m/. I'm hoping they will play a few new songs too (and In Vein, what an awesome song).

I liked the Arsis cd enough to buy it but it is hardly original or stellar.

Vio-lence has probably the most unique singer in thrash .. but most people will hate his style.
I remember when Vio first came out ... most people hated his style.
Got used to it myself over the years.

And yet you enjoy Mustaine's annoying wannabe snarl. ugh.... :p

Slayer is pretty good, but methinks overrated. Araya's vocal delivery is hardly something to write home about.

@Erik - I've heard one Vio-Lence album. You all want annoying thrash vocalists? Look no further than Vio-Lence (or Megadeth).

One thrash band that no one ever mentions is Prong. I had Prove You Wrong when it first came out, and I really enjoyed the duel vocal delivery, and thought it was a pretty damn good effort. Anyone else like Prong?
