I'm looking for some Atmospheric/Avant-Garde Black Metal in the style of Arcturus' first album. Also Garm's vocals on this album are fucking phenomenal!

So...Any recommendations?

Solefad - Neonism

neither are really my thing, but they're quite similar, you'll probably enjoy it.

ive got that fleurety album, theres some really cool sort of soft parts with prominent bass, some chick thats singing/moaning, nice hihat/cymbal drum rhythms, cool guitar arpeggios. not a fan of the black metal parts but i do like the other bits.

i have no idea what avant garde means, but if its anything like avant garde jazz its incredibly strange/interesting to listen to, even if its just a few times. bands i suggest: ved buens ende, fleurety, solefald.

^ Ved Buens Ende! How could I forget them!? Get 'Written in Waters' NOW! Oh, maybe the first album by In the Woods... would be something.

yeh its cool, although the guys voice is very very odd. i liked the start of coiled in wings i wish there was more of that on the album. oh and the bass drums kind of had a weird muted sound but otherwise pretty good. are in the woods worth checking out?

Dude, Omnio is one of the best albums out there. Check it out ASAP.

i have no idea what avant garde means

"Avant-garde in music may refer, among other things, to an extreme form of musical improvisation in which little or no regard is given by soloists to any underlying chord structure or rhythm, such as free jazz and some forms of noise music. It can refer to any form of music working within traditional structures while seeking to breach boundaries in some manner."

Read: "weird shit"

sorry for the bump:

i am in a similar position, im looking for more of these avant garde metal bands, in a similar vein to fleurety and ved buens ende. i like solefald and a little bit of arcturus. the problem is, i dont really like the black metally parts, im more or less looking for a band that composes and uses the form of a metal band/avant garde band but with alot of external influences (rock, jazz, you name it ill listen to it), and preferably alot of soft, quiet instrumental interludes/bridges/phrases whatever (also preferably featuring an acoustic guitar). i know this probably seems like a stupid request, but truthfully its what im most interested in atm.
