also the size of a gnome makes the game "unrealistic", in some people's opinions, because...well me, for example, my character is like 2'9" and has things 4 stories tall hitting him with big sticks

but, um, there's like dragons and wizards and stuff so i fail to see the issue
 
this thread clarifies something i've been sporadically wondering for like a week now, thanks.
 
oh i thought it was something deeper, like "gnomes gyrocopters and firecannon mean they can strike a killing blow unchallenged against a wizard-level giant seventy percent of the time, and they also can create mechanical walls so they can double loot" or something gamewise.

in other words, i expected nerdier.
 
no - there are only minor differences between races in the game, aside from appearance. the extra abilities races get are usually nothing to cause much of a furor (gnomes can escape from nets and such, and get a bonus if they choose the engineering profession) although a few do get people's ire up slightly.

class differences (i.e. warrior vs. mage vs. etc, etc, etc) is where the real shouting matches are
