Basically you're paying for the inputs and outputs available, quality of preamps and quality of converters.
Focusrite Saffire and M Audio Profire 2626 are pretty popular on here. Both are good enough that they wont get in the way of you making good recordings.

*ahem* I've got a PreSonus Firepod (now known as the FP10).
I've had no issues with it myself, but I don't know how it compares to the others mentioned here.

how big of an improvement do you guys think i would see going from my presonus firepod to the Focusrite Saffire Pro 40?

Not much, if any at all man. It's more of a sidestep than an upgrade. Just moving from one mid range interface to another.
im trying to go to an rme fireface or something similar but if i could get something equal for less thatd be great lol
