Audiophile Crap

you should always spend to get the best speakers for whatever audio rig you have ... a) because they are the most important component in a system and b) is because a great pair can last you decades ... a great speaker now will be a great speaker 20 years from now ... but audio equipment and technology changes.

did any of you ever swap out just the speakers in your car stereo ... try it ... even if you replace the OEM ones for $50 aftermarket ones ... you WILL hear a difference.

Wilson Audio Alexandria X-2 ... $135,000 a pair depending on finish ...

Imagine the amplification you need to drive these behemots

I always wanted a pair of these ... B&W 805S ... paired with a nice 2 channel amp these sound sweet. B&W has a mellow warm sound. Not badly priced at $2,500 / pair for the quality you get. Also one thing with hi end speakers is that they really hold their value ...

Look at these beauties ...

$2500 is a little out of my price range for some speakers that my son will probably put a hole in.
Those Alexandrias are hilarious. Post some more pics of outlandish stuff, lurch.

Btw, I noticed Yamaha still makes 2 channel stereo receivers. What would be the point of these? Isnt the market already saturated with 7.1 channel amps? What possible advantage could a 2 channel amp give? They're not even cheaper. Curious.

hehhe ... this should keep you busy for awhile

there is even a JBL speaker system in there, the Synthesis, for a mere $110K

I went to the Synthesis website. Shit is professionally installed and calibrated. Just kinda reinforces my thought that there's no point in owning a surround sound system unless it's in the right room - which 99% of homeowner's don't have.

well yeah, before you buy $100K speakers there are other things you should own ... an Aston Martin, a place to park it (preferably a $5M home) ...

shit, $100K speakers even sound expensive if your house it $5M

That shit's absurd. It's basically the same philosophy behind purchasing art. You do because you can. Frankly, I think there is something terribly wrong with an economic system that allows a select few to buy $110,000 speakers. I'm not a communist or socialist but the disparity in wealth is alarming.

Is this the thread in which I asked about soundbar type speakers? I can't seem to find the post and I'm too lazy to look at length for it. Anyway, anyone have experience with these? Do they work? I've pretty much lost interest in the whole home theater silliness but I've been holding out for years for new speakers and now I finally have a place to put them. I was going to get a pair of Polk floorstanding speakers for music but there would be no surround experience for movies. But if those sound bars dealies can reproduce music appropriately, then I should probable get one of those instead. Maybe I'm wrong but it seems as if stereo and surround aren't interchangeable. Music sounds like shit on underpowered surround speakers and this 7.1 Blu-ray baloney is wasted on stereo speakers. Fuck this. Where's VHS?

whay are you looking into this soundbar speaker? I don't think they're adequate for anything in particular ... they were designed for space saving and aesthetics first and foremost.

Dorian shouldn't you buy some cds before you invest in a pair of speakers?

And on that note I'm off to El Pollo Loco. :dopey:

oh shit el pollo loco! you can't get better chicken anywhere! i went to one while i was in mexico, it was fucking delicious. there's only one in the metroplex though :(

I was just wondering how they sound with music. I'm looking at some Polk floorstanding speakers but they have no surround capabilities whatsoever. But I've kinda lost interest in that anyway, considering, like I said, apparently you must two different systems. One for music and one for theater. It's a racket really. Personally, having lived 32 years without surround sound I think I can continue to go without.
If I can sneak it past the old lady I'm going to pair some Polks with a NAD amp...in loving memory of our dear departed Adrian of course
