Audiophile Crap

hahahha

And yes, that is our name. And yes, it’s pronounced exactly like you think. Shee-tah. It’s a proud German name, host to a long line of audio engineers who slaved away in crumbling Teutonic fortresses as lightning lashed the dark lands outside, working to perfect the best amplification devices in the world . . . Or, well, no. Yep, Schiit is our name. As in “Hey man, that’s some really cool Schiit.” Or, “We like music and Schiit.” And now that we have your attention, can we show you some Schiit?

After posting about my headphone setup in the other thread and being satisfied I was just now looking at Schiit's site for amps and dacs

So what's the deal with headphone amplifiers? [/Seinfeld] I've been reading up on them on head-fi, but the myriad of options just seem to be overwhelming for a nub like me. Looking to drop no more than $250, (not rich), would it even be worth doing so to oomp the low power demanding GradoSR80i's? Other upgrade option is to sell these off and grab the SR225i's? Kenneth and all other lads who own headphone amplifiers please opine. (Dorian, Aurel, and other window shoppers need not apply.) :p

Look into the setup that I have first and foremost:

Fiio E7
Fiio E9

The E7 is a DAC/Amp, and the E9 is a dedicated amp with a dock for the E7, which will allow you to use the amplification of the E9 along with the E7's DAC. It's a very versatile setup.

Another consideration instead of the E7 is the nForce uDAC-2. The E7/E9 Combo can run around $160, and you can find either seperate for about $60 - 80. the nForce uDAC-2 should be around $110. Both are plenty sufficient for your needs. If you really want to go fancy with tube amps etc, something equivalent to the Little Dot MK III would be a good consideration.

I decided on a Little Dot I+, with some upgraded Mullard ef92s down the road. The Dot I+ shines with low impedance headphones apparently. Pfft, don't give a rat's ass about any of this tech psychobabble that is discussed on the headfi forums, I just want to roq.

You don't need an amp for your Grados.

Heh, don't need one, but gf offered to get me anything I wanted for x-mas, and there's not a damn thing I could think of. I'm the least materialistic fuck I know, pretty much a hobo with a wallet of dough. Anyhow, this amp may actually motivate me to listen to the grados, as I've spent all of maybe 3 hours listening to them since I picked them up. I just don't spent any time in front of the stereo listening to music as I once did in my youth. Metal is restricted to gym sessions and commutes. May have to pick up boozing again, I'm sXe, call me CM Vunt. :erk:
