Avenged Sevenfold

I've seen them live 3 times. They are very good live. The mix has been very good with all the guitar melodies coming through clearly. They even played Strength of the World the past time I saw them, which in my opinion is their best song.

I like the heavyish sound without the growl or screaming. The drummer is also good, but I think he abuses the pedal.

I cannot stand them at all. I have a cousin (she is 17) and she listens to them all the time, along with bands that fall under the "emo" genre. Please, keep their music away from me! AHHHHHHH!!!!!!! If Their singer wasn't such a whiner, she wouldn't be listening to them and I would like them better (but I still wouldn't much)

I tried to listen to city of evil, but it was so pop-punkish that I couldn't stand it. I give them a thumbs up on talent (their guitarists are good), and thumbs down on overall musical composition. Sorry, but it's just not my type of music.

Did I already say that Bat Country is the corniest music video ever? *checks first post* Yep, I did.

Something I noticed about the band is that the lead guitarist has this constant "im surrounded by idiots" look on his face. I saw em a few years ago and the singer bumped into him during a solo and he gave the guy a pretty nasty look. I was amused

They're great. Awesome song writers and their musicianship gets better with every album. I don't know why someone on the first page said they were pop-punkish; they're not even close. It's too bad they're getting more mainstream though. Oh well, good for them I guess.

to me they sound poppy. If you compare there vocals and choruses with pop-punk bands it has its similarities imo. It's the same with Atreyu, they are talented, but they sound poppy. It has that happy happy catchiness to it.

The only thing I appreciate about them is their talent. They can play their instruments and for being in the mainstream is a gift to them. They actually used skill to get popular, but then again that type of music is becoming a popular trend. But hey it's only good in the ear of the beholder, and if it sounds good to you, then great!

Well I have different tastes in musical composition, and a lot of power metal is very boring to me because their writing is too happy happy for me. lol

Heh, yeah power metal can get pretty happy (for better or for wrose). But anyway it's just that I think of Green Day, Blink 182 and the like when I hear the word pop.

I was listening to them today, and I must say that some of the songs on the new album are heavy as a mofo. I forget exactly which songs, because I was listening to them on a shuffle, while I was playing Sonic Mega Collection, and I'm too lazy to find them right now.

Thats why the term EMO was invented.

Ehh, I never really considered them Emo, just Pop-punk, but whatever genres aren't a big deal.

If only people in my school tried copying me. In my school, I'm that guy, who everybody else wants me to copy them. But if stuff like that makes you want to hit something, do what Dane Cook does when he hears a car alarm, and punch a baby. But if people wanted to copy me, I'd do everything in my power to make them into total Prog/ Metal Heads.

Imagine the Utopia of a world filled with Progsnobs, we could finally cancel out the snob part of the name since Progsnobs only act superior to those of lesser musical intelligence. Man that would be cool, that and owning a Lightsaber.

If Prog Metal existed so many years ago, that would be Atlantis, that Utopia that embraces artistic superiority and.... well.... overall superiority. Dammit, now I'm homesick. I want a lightsaber.
